epos solutions for fashion

I work for an established fashion boutique which has 3 stores and one website and we're keen to install an integrated EPOS system to improve stock control.

We've been quoted between £15,000 - £35,000 for traditional EPOS systems which to be honest we've been underwhelmed by (though bowled over by the price!). I've recently come across 'cloud' systems which seem much more contemporary and user friendly and removes the need to spend extra on bulky, purpose built hardware.

However I've now read that these systems depend on a constant connection which I'm worried we wouldn't have. It's been a nightmare trawling through all this technology and I'm desperate for some sound advice from someone who's had a successful system installed or knows where I can find one.

getting a constant connection shouldn't be too hard

within that price point you definitely have room for some redundant internet connections and special routers that will automatically switch from one connection to another if the connection drops

you need systems that can work standalone and as well as constantly synchronizing with your online database so that if there is a breakdown in connection the system is capable of carrying on working.We had similar problems. RiteCart sorted us out. It is their stock control and facility manager that we quite liked along with enormous options for advanced eCommerce.

I've often seen Intelligent Retail and Cybertill advertise in the trade magazines I read. They incorporate website and shop stock over an internet connection.

The pricing you have had may be good value, it depends on requirements, how many systems you are gettig for that, how many users on backoffice etc, multisite isnt really an issue as this is sorted with a Internet connection and VPN, if the internet goes down you are best to have an epos package that runs in an offline mode when needed, it just stores the sales data until the next time it can connect to the backoffice.

If you want to PM me your requirements I will look at the hardware side first to see whats required and aprox pricing (off of whats told to me, without actual site surveys it would be impossible to get exact figures), then its just a metter of deciding which software suts your requirements best, and there is plenty out there.

Hello, the ideal solution is a web based epos system but with terminals in the shops that will continue to work and on which you can do sales even if internet is down. With a web based system all sales data, product and stock data, etc is on secure internet servers and is availalbe 24 hours a day with uptime of 99.9% or more. AlfaRichi is one of the companies that specialize in this and we could talk about you needs or advise further. The upper limit for the cost in our opinion should be no more than £15000 and that should include epos terminals in the shops.

My personal experience with Intelligent Retail (suggested above) hasn't been good. The system has a nice interface and data is backed up over broadband (if the broadband goes down it just synchs next time it's back up so the till still works).

Customer service has been pretty rubbish though - I've had problems with the system which I'm pretty sure are due to the software but getting sensible answers out of the customer support team has been impossible. I'm now looking at other options.

if you are looking for a reliable system set up. you will need at least 3 front end epos systems at the service counters and a bank office systems (epos server) which you can use to monitor all operations such as inventory, orders, sales reports and stock reports.
This is the ideal setup which work for you, if the stores are located at different locations, they will all be interconnected thourgh wireless VPN, you do need internet connections at all the locations.

I am and Intelligent Retail customer (have been for four years). Support is very poor, always has been. Software is a bit shakey at times. We have looked at other options but can't afford to jump ship. Their SEO service is good and affordable though...

We have over 100 fashion retailers that we work with, and have integrated with lots of EPOS systems. If you pm me I'll be able to advise on the pros/cons of each and even put you in touch with their clients if need be. Many are going round claiming "real time" stock integration and can't actually deliver it so be careful.

Thought we'd update this thread as it's been some time. We are a fashion boutique and have been using Intelligent Retail for the last six years and would highly recommend them as technology partners. They really understand the needs of our business and since we changed over to the responsive solution 18 months ago we never looked back. You have to invest in this stuff, it's surprising how many retailers try and do this on the cheap. You wouldn't do that with your bricks and mortar so don't understand why you would do that with online shop?

We have seen quite a few negative reviews of Intelligent Retail and they all seem to be from before they were taken over a few years ago. Since then we have seen big changes and we now get very responsive support through the helpdesk when we need it and new features every few months. If you are serious about making your online business a success I wouldn't look at anyone else and believe me we did a lot of research. We have proved that finding the right multi-channel company can give your business the online presence that grows your sales.
