employing staff

im looking to emply staff for the first time. i have met with a HR consultant who has quoted me £640 to draw up the emplyee contract and grevience/disiplinary procedures. Do i really need a consultant for this or should i give it a go myslef. Also seems quite expensive. she charges £85 per hour an estimates it will take 3-4 hours for the contract and 2.5 houyrs for the grevience/disiplinary procedure document.

I'm certainly no expert in HR however I am sure that you can get templates of these contracts and make amendments as necessary such as holiday pay etc... Most employment contracts are the same - well the ones I've had in the past have been.
Then if you are not sure it would be cheaper in my opinion to get your solicitor to have a quick read through. I certainly wouldn't part with £600 for a HR 'expert' to spend 10 or so hours on a basic contract.
Just my opinion. :)

Hi

I can highly recommend http://www.sjbealehrconsult.co.uk/

She helped me tailor the contract to my requirements (part time staff). Her template are more than reasonable too.

Also think about payroll. I use the payroll service at my accountant's. Very reasonable rates and I get to ask as many questions as I need to. I had an employee who had another job and it gets complicated with tax, NI, etc. Also another one went off sick for 6 weeks and as it was part time with no other employee (at the time) I got the sick pay money back.
