Email marketing - how often ?

I agree and disagree with Steve Gibson. The agreement is wholehearted with respect to the relevancy of the e-mail and it's contents, however each of us has a finite amount of time to prioritise and sales based e-mails are generally less important than business information.

As an example, for online marketing, I am happy to recieve an e-mail once a week (perhaps even twice in 10 days), as I can set time aside to read them - over time I have syphoned off the poor ones so I know what I recieve is worth reading (I'm still subscribed to yours Steve).

In the past few 48 hours I have un-subscribed from the leading e-retailer of books. The reason for this is that once (about 4 months ago) I was chacking laptop prices on their site. Since then I have recieved a minimum of 2 e-mails a week about laptops and an array of other e-mails promoting other products.

It's taken me a while to get round to unsubscribing, but the fact of the matter is: if they had sent me an e-mail once a fortnight, I would probably still be a subscriber - instead I felt harrassed.

(Just realised how long this post is - sorry, just got into a flow :eek:;))
