Hi there
I'm thinking about setting up an eco cleaning business whereby I clean domestic properties using eco-friendly products only. I'm just wanting some thoughts on whether this will be a sought after service or not before I take the plunge.
If anyone else would like to embark on a similar venture I know a fantastic franchise available - for more info you can email me: ecoshop(at)planetmail (dot) com
Thanks

I think there's a lot of merit to your idea but can I suggest that you promote the human health aspect of using eco-friendly materials as well as the Green. Showing people why something is better for them is usually more convincing than saying why non-eco products are bad.

I think it is great, especially if you are using some very nice-smelling products. Although I only heard about it from the US, maybe something similar can be found in the UK too, there is a brand that makes biodegradable, totally eco-friendly house cleaning liquids which smell like basil, flowers, cakes, fruit, etc. Not the usual pine, lemon and tutti-frutti scents.

I just contact you regarding details about the business. I am waiting your reply.

I would suggest a variation of you angle though, especially as there is a growing number of 'eco cleaning' people about - and set up and promote yourself as 'non-toxic cleaning'.

Cleaning products are among the biggest sources of toxins in the home, and this then adversely affects the health of those living there.

Sounds good, I guess my only concern would be the cost of purchasing the eco chemicals, which would cost more. A cost which you would have to pass on to your customers, mind you if they are willing to pay the extra for an eco clean.. go for it

When you move into moderate bulk and into refilling, the costs are still higher but if say it was £0.09 versus £0.03 then although it was 200% more expensive, the actual amount is so small as to be negligible.

The much larger costs come with the infrastructure and delivery. Providing an ecological office, clothing etc. comes at a much greater price.

The real killer though is transport. Unless you go to pedal power, you are going to have to spend serious amounts to offer even a marginally ecological delivery system. I don't see how you can be an ecological cleaner if you drive around in an old banger spewing out huge amounts of noxious gases.

After this you need to consider the total ecological cost of production of the vehicle you use over the lifetime you use it. A vehicle you use for 10 years would be far more ecological than a vehicle you change after 3 years, even if the second vehicle was more fuel efficient.

Most people don't haver the resources to go truly ecological and few customers are prepared to pay for such a service.

I agree but the idea of an eco friendly cleaning service is to reduce he chemicals sprayed in the home / business. It also serves as a useful service for those who are suffer from allergies.

this is a hot idea - there are companies in the US that are growing hugely because they don't use harsh chemicals, but natural and sustainable ones

You can even buy in lemons, limes, oranges - citrus fruits that cut through grime and grease... not that you would ONLY use those but if you can buy in bulk...

Citrus fruits are highly acidic and are therefore more suited to removal of mineral deposits such as limescale.
Grease and fat are generally tackled with an alkali product.
Be careful with the lemons though. At a ph of 2.2 whilst from a natural product can still damage if used on the wrong type of surface. Same with vinegar.

All the best with your venture

I really like your idea for the Eco cleaning business, aside from non toxic material that you will use, you will help the environment to look great and even better. A lot of people are now gearing towards a greener lifestyle and all of us needs it.

Which is???

As professionals they would obviously just read the MSDS and COSHH sheets supplied with the lemons to ensure there were suitable for use.
