I have a few domains in my locker that I'd like to sell

what do I need to look at doing? (obviously find a buyer first :D)

If anyone could provide some guidance i'd be grateful

Hello

1and1.co.uk offer free transfers and if you sell it through sedo but i think what you should do is while it is up for sale park the domain to make money on it what kind of domain names are they

Please let me know how you get on

Oh and also when you sell the domain through sedo they should be able to help you change ownership.

Thanks
Austin

Hi

What domains are they and do they have any page rank.

Some hosts will tranfer a .co.uk free but the .coms is a small charge. This all depends on who the domain sits with

To move a domain you would need to change the name tags which the new host will give you. but to sell a domain i think it would be best to contact your hosts.

Thanks Richard

Apart from selling the domain for £xx,xxx's :D how do i transfer ownership etc?

You can manage transfers through Nominet Online Services, it's done by email at a cost of £10 plus vat.

No .co.uk are able to be transferred via a registrar for free, all legal registrant changes need to be done through Nominet.

Sedo can handle the whole process for you, if you sell via them.

If you do it privately you could use www.escrow.com to handle the transfer.

But most of the sales I have done, the purchaser transfers the money and you then arrange the transfer via the registrar.

Just to clarify, any .uk domains (including .co.uk and .org.uk) sold and therefore transferred to a new owner must be done so via Nominet. You can now do so via their online transfer system.

Additionally, you only pay £10 + VAT per transfer, not per domain. So if you sell 3 domains to the same person, you only pay the fee once.

If you don't expect to sell the domains for too much and therefore don't want to get involved with Sedo fees (I think its at least $50 or thereabouts) you can do it manually, depending on the TLD.

.uk's - As Lee_Owen said, this needs to be done by Nominet's online service for £10+vat. You don't need to change the registrar for this.
.com (and other gTLDs) - I believe all registrars have their own methods of doing this and most don't charge. Again, you won't need to transfer the domain to another registrar (which will involve 1 year's renewal as the fee).

Be weary about the payment, as PayPal offer no protection for domain name sales. Escrow is secure for this.

Thanks all. much appreciated.

With regards to buying a domain someone currently has their hands on, its a co.uk domain, so obv need to reg at nominet, no probs with that, understand that part.

What about actually getting my hands on the domain to point at my nameservers?? bit confused on this bit??

The domain will stay at the current registrar and they will be informed by Nominet of the registrant transfer. The registrar should then give you appropriate access to that domain (knowing that you're the new registrant). You may want to ask the current registrar of the domain how they act of transfers like this. - I believe you can change registrar during the transfer if you know you're going to have problems (though don't quote me on that! Ask Nominet first)

The confirmation emails (to old and new registrant) I believe are sent almost immediately. Should they be acted on asap then the rest of the transfer is automatic and should be completed immediately. Again, please don't quote me on this, ask Nominet to confirm the details.

The process of selling a domain has been covered, although you'd be a fool to use 1&1.

Sales points, the real domain discussion forums like->
NamePros (Free)
DNForum (Wouldn't bother paying the fees if your just looking to clear a few Dns)
SitePoint, It's either $10 or 20, but not a bad sales venue.
Google for more

Depending on the name, if it's HairCuts.com, contact local hairdressers. Or in that case, buy a much bigger wallet.
End user sales will usually be much bigger than resale sales (Selling to a domainer who's going to dev/re-flip it)

Sedo is alright but S L O W.
