Domain renewal $150 !!

I have just received a domain renewal email from Melbourne it for $150 for two years, I'm sure it was £15 before!? Does this sound the right price or are they trying it on!!?

Are you even hosted in Melbourne? If not just ignore the email and pay the hosting comply the way you normally do.

I get these scam emails regularly along with the ones from China offering .cc domains

Domains are $us10 pa for .com at Namecheap, less for a .co.uk.
Do they (Melbourne) have a transfer fee?

You say it is hosted by Melbourne but who did you register it with? If you didn't register it with them then they may be trying it on. A quick whois search should help you with this.

If it is registered with Melbourne then as above, do a bit of research on which companies offer the best renewal prices and get it transferred quickly.

So if you are just renewing the domain name you don't need to pay them anything. Are you sure the email isn't for hosting?

Email from Melbourne it says "renew your domain.co.uk which expires December for $150 for 2 years (domain only) which includes online account management tools and 24/7 support."

Get it moved your sites isn't hosted with them any longer

There's no need to pay anything like $150. Hover.com is good or for slightly better service enomcentral.com.

As others have said, I would get it moved.

The good news is .co.uk domains are really easy and pretty much instant to move.

Just make sure your not jumping to a registrar that charges to leave etc. Most will help or do the transfer and have a chat with you to make sure everything is covered.

Sounds like a scam. Maybe they got your address from a Whois search, looked at the date of renewal and sent you a letter. Like here: http://www.business2community.com/trends-news/4-domain-renewal-scams-avoid-0955664

What domain extension is it? They're all priced differently and some are scandalous so it's not necessarily wrong. However, it most certainly is if it's a co.uk or a .com!

Yeah, just move it to a cheaper registrar. $150 is crazy.
