Domain name purchase sites

Where would be the best site to purchase a domain name, that would allow full freedom, control and access?

There are plenty of different websites offering domains so much cheaper than others but it shouldn't just be about price. If you want full freedom you should choose one with control panel access for DNS management, UK Support and a direct Registrar (i.e. ICANN and Nominet accredited).

Full freedom, control and access of what?

The domain name is simply a pointer. It tells the world that someone has registered the domain. The registrar will give you access to update various records and forward the domain name to a hosting but there isn't much else you can do.

Or do you really mean you want freedom, control and access of a hosting package? If so this is a totally different animal.

I use LCN.com

No idea if they are cheapest or 'best' - but they do have a good 'real person' helpline.

Are there any that do not? At the very least they will let you change name servers so you can use someone else's - Cloudflare and some others will even provide free name servers.

Namecheap are one of my all time favourites. Have over 30 domains with them currently.

Not all provide full DNS management as standard. Some only allow you to add/change records but not name servers.
