Does a video really help your website?

I just had a quick nosey on the Deadline data website to see where you were located and one of the first things I thought is you could do quite easily is replace the fella on the home page with a video clip of the same or similar fella saying hello and introducing your website.

My company did something similar for a website a few years back when doing that was cutting edge stuff and it worked really well. Though we kinda had to re-invent the wheel to get it to work :D

The company we were quoting against was called "Videotile" and i believe they still do that kinda thing it's nice but not particularly cheap :D

Norman Chevlin advices that a demo video can only really help if it is well done, has a very clear message, is short, and entertaining at the same time. Almost every website in this world can benefit from a short concise explanatory video.

@PSV Media. The video is pro, great image quality and good quality audio. The interviews help and seem genuine.

The big negative for me is the music. It makes the entire video seem dated. It is making it feel very 1980s in my opinion.

Overall very good, but do something with the music.

My thoughts exactly

Well I read that view will become more important, and if you have an entry on Google places for business, which you really should do, then that has an option to put a video on. Personally I can't be bothered to watch videos, so I never do, unless they involve a monkey doing something amusing.

I know of this guy: http://www.hitchtalktv.com/ and he seems to be doing a good job for his local clients.

Hi Antony

Thanks for the comment! The company you mentioned were a tad pricey!

Does anyone have any advice on a someone who could do a video intro on our rolling banner?

Videotile are indeed expensive. We produced the same thing for just over a quarter of their quoted price!

Most production companies could produce the greenscreened video content required to put the presenter on a backdrop for around £500.

The presenter themselves could be found on a site like starnow would be around £150 for someone with experience and most flash based web developers could put the video onto your existing website for around £150.

Kinda makes you wonder why Videotile can command around £3K-£4K for the same thing :D
