I am setting up a business for online advertising events. The events will not be held by me. all information, events and risks are held by the organisers.

I will be working from home for the start. Do i need any insurance if i have nothing in the shape of assets or public interface?

Depends on the contract. If by your work (or lack of work) the customer can suffer heavy losses. It is worth to insure.

The only legal requirement is employer's insurance. I assume that you have no employees, so that will not affect you.

Deciding on other insurance is a pure business decision. If there are risks that you can identify where something unexpected could happen and as a consequence you had a bill that you could not pay, then insurance might be appropriate. If you had funds to cover it then paying insurance might not be a wise business decision as the premiums might work out more expensive in the long-term.
