Data management systems

Does a business actually need a data management system? I heard about them and done a bit of research into the subject but I'm still a bit unsure on what they actually do and what benefits it will provide businesses? Could anyone explain it in a simple way? Please, thx

It really depends what you do and what data you generate and use. I previously worked for the police and they had lots of different but related datasets to manage, interrogate, and report on, so it made sense to invest in data management tools, but for many small businesses there might only be sales and operations to report on and you might not need extra systems to do that if you already have an invoicing system and a system to support your operations.

What do you mean by data management?

Are you referring to simple CRM, or something more complex/specific?

For CRM, most of the common providers offer a free version, so it's hard to see why you wouldn't use one.
