Hey Guys, Just wondering how much time you spend per day dealing with SEO and what specifically you do each day?

If you have monthly paying SEO clients what do you do for them each day?

If you only had 10 minutes per day what would you be doing to aid your SEO efforts?

No two clients are the same, no two days are the same. it is way too complex to write out what is done on a daily basis as not all client sites will be worked on each day, in fact most of them won't be.

As above, no two clients are the same, and clients will not be worked on each day. it isn't SEO by numbers, there isn't a set thing to do each day.

Well first off I would work every other day and do 20 minutes, as 10 minutes is wasted, by the time you start it is time to stop. But SEO is about evaluation, planning, implimentation, evaluation> and on and on.

3 blocks per week would be split into

1. Analysing rankings, traffic and analytics plus KW research
2. 10 minutes of On page SEO, the remaining 10 on link building
3. 20 minutes of link building for traffic and rankings.

Please note this isn't what i do, this is in reply to your question of the theoretical 10 minutes per day

If I only had 10 minutes it would be spent on analytics.

Interesting statement as Analytics is not productive, Analytics simply reports on the work you carried out.

Well, me personally, I do around 8-14 hours per day Search Engine Optimisation and Search Engine Marketing. My main core workload at the minute is multivariate testing as we have had loads of eCommerce websites coming on board.

In terms of clients, putting it simply we learn what their goals are and put together a strategy which will deliver on their goals within their budget if possible.

In regards to 10 minutes each day I would build suitable links.

As Old Welsh Guy has quite rightly pointed out no two websites are the same but I'll give you an indication of what I do on my current website which is an affiliate site marketing holiday breaks in the UK.

Daily
Monitor national and London regional newspapers for newsworthy stories I can latch on to, blog about or make valid comments about.

Check google alerts for keywords and review all articles on discussion forums, blogs etc and comment if relevant.

Monitor hotel websites relevant to my business so I can promote their special offers via twitter to followers, facebook to members with the eventual aim of driving them to my own website and collecting details for monthly newsletter

research for 2 x 250ish words blog posts on hotels, activities in local areas we cover. I've just started outsourcing the writing of these as my posts aren't exactly engaging (as you'll see if you've got this far down)

Contribute on a number of well known and niche forums (currently 21) on a number of different topics in order to build up a reputation before I eventually drop in a link on a relevant thread. - I've been doing this for the last eight months and have not yet dropped any to my website but good things come to those who wait.

Ad hoc
Photos of niche sports carried out in the areas my website covers. Horse riding, windsurfing, kite surfing. Post on facebook, email webmasters of relevant forums who are usually kind enough to post link driving traffic to FB page which then links through to website. If webmasters don't post a link then they're an excellent way to attract targeted traffic via facebook adverts.

Weekly
check weather/tides for weekends and send out weekly email to all the above that signed up with best areas and times to do xxx sport.

Update 'personal' blog on well known parenting websites harping on about what mums harp on about and the occasional weekend away with 'husband, 'kids' & 'dogs'

Every time I'm on the internet
lurk on twitter keeping an eye on what travel PR people are saying, where they've been etc - Engage them in conversation.

Again this takes months and I can go weeks without any relevant conversation coming up.

That's probably a round up of what I do each week on a website that's been running for around six months with the planning going on nine.

As you probably guessed this takes me much longer than 10 minutes.

Hi Gemma

I spend my time adding customer reviews and unique articles to my website - I leave the off site SEO to an expert.

Its been a winning combination and resulted in high rankings on Google

Great post
Sums up why a lot of SEOs don't really do SEO for other people.

Most wouldn't be prepared to pay for all work involved so the SEO puts all that work in to their own sites instead.

Yes, I think my SEO is helped by the fact I've built up a knowledge of the industry. I'd be reluctant to pass on the management of my website to a SEO company that doesn't have a direct experience of the travel sector.

Having said that I don't consider the majority of what I do to be SEO and quite frankly I probably wouldn't know the finer points of it if they hit me on the head.

Quite right. I 100% agree, that SEo is part of internet marketing, and that is what is needed in todays marketplace.

In order to know what SEO techniques really work for you, you should perform a number of strategies, track them to see what is really working.

Social Media is really helpful in SEO. A strategy that I am making sure I do not miss.

Not every client is same and nor their project requirements. And, moreover 10 mins a day in my opinion is not sufficient to go, as SEO is a process where you need to devote time. When you get a project make a strategy layout of how project will move and what all activities are you going to perform depending upon the client’s requirements and how much time are you going to spend.

every projects are unique and need separate strategy to promote them. We don't work on daily for each project even on small project which need only some push to get ranked.

spending time, depends on 1) competition 2) site quality 3) authority etc

In 10 Min, I love to find anyone for doing my offside works :)

You really need to turn that 10 minutes into an hour at least!

However, within this theoretical 10 minutes I would most likely look at which organic terms we are getting good conversions on and see if I can
1. improve rankings or
2. capture more long tail queries around the term.

However implementing that would take ~ 30 minutes to write a new article, ~ 15 minutes to do some basic link building or ~ 4 hours to do some serious link building.

You could also bump its rankings up slightly by building more internal links to the page.

If you only have 10 minutes everyday - Analytics is your first stop. Understand your website and how it is performing for you, have a good understanding of what keywords your site is relying upon. This is the first thing that is fundamental when talking to any potential clients. Get this right to mange expectations from the offski.

10 minutes a day is not really enough time to make any difference. If that's all the time I had, I would pool it together, so every few days spend 40 minutes writing a guest post or blog etc. Much more effective.

I don't do any SEO. I concentrate on activities that make money. The most lucrative being improving conversions.

As OWG said, marketing is the key, SEO is often only a tiny fraction of the overall marketing scheme.

On a regular basis I try to add new articles and blog posts to my network. If i'm not doing that i'll be working on link building in some way or another.

I don't necessarily do it everyday though and I certainly don't just repeat the same thing every time I do carry out some SEO work.

It's depends on your keywords, if you would like to get more traffic to your website then please do social marketing, social bookmarking but please don't create spam.

If its a daily thing you're looking for then I assume that you have done all your KW strategy (weekly/monthly), analysis etc and you're looking for actual help on activities you can do to boost your SEO?

We spend at least an hour per day here, every employee and we build our backlinks. Forums, blog comments, article submission, PRWeb, twitter, Facebook, etc etc.

We also have someone that spends about an hour per day dealing with the gray hat stuff like automated tools we use to help boost highly competitive areas.

We also do a monthly check on our Keyword performance to ensure that what we're doing is working, but thats not a daily excercise.

Oh and read up the latest blogs on SEO to keep up to date. SEO is changing, maybe subtlely, but it is changing all the time now and more quickly.

BTW do not over emphasise Analysis. Take a more agile and empirical approach where you just try - review - tweak - try again. at least you're doing SEO this way, not thinking about it. If you're a business where SEO is a marketing tool, not what you sell, then trust your instincts, as you'll know 80% what you need to be focussing on. Looking at competition is great and necessary but don't copy them or you'll always be behind. Find ways to be different and get a head start on them.

On a daily basis, you need to check analytics, build quality links, monitor the important keywords, optimise the website well. You can also start with blogs and article building, this provides you with backlinks from good authoritative websites, thus aiding to improve the rankings on the search engines. :)

First of all I am not a SEO just a amateur with several websites. As has been said 10 minutes  I wish but then I am slow

Weekly basis

1. Twitter daily
2. Facebook every few days
3. New content every few days
4. New photos every few days ( 120 thousand so far and 2.5 million views last year)
5. Link building but mainly only with associated sites that ie hotels/hostels etc
6. Various posts on various forums around the world some relevant to what we do some not so relevant
7. Getting our content onto other travel and group booking sites, 100% zero SEO benefit but lots of £ benefit which is the type I prefer:)
8. Used to do a blog but that has died off , just not dedicated enough or a good enough writer
9. Producing new products/services and then scheduling when and what sites we will release it on
10. Scratching my head thinking of other ways to improve our rankings and conversions
11. More scratching of head and give up and go sit in the sun or walk the dogs depending where in the world I am.

Maybe one day I will learn SEO properly but until then just blundering along.

My activities mirror a lot of other peoples out there by the looks of it. I arrived at my current company only a few months ago and there was virtually no on-line presence, so I dedicated time in building a new website, blog, article submissions and back link building and already traffic to our site is 3 times what it was.

I like to monitor the site daily just so that I can notice if anything unusual pops up and because I concentrate on different sectors of the market it gives a good indication of what's working.

I would say that generally my mornings are spent on SEO and SEM, which leaves the afternoon for lead generation- very important for a digital media company!

1. Analysing web traffic
2. General on page optimisation and improvements
3. Managing community content generation
4. Cleaning up the **** on my site that other 'link building campaigns' leave everywhere

10 min. time is very less for SEO efforts. You need more time to do SEO on site.
