Hi,

I have a new range of stock coming it mid August which i am looking for a courier for. This is proving more difficult than i thought.

As luck would have it i had a rep from UK Mail walk into my shop the other day offering services, he said he would email me with prices, however iv heard nothing. He did however say that for a item over 1200mm there would be a £9 surcharge.

I have also contacted DPD as i like their tracking system, as i have suppliers who use these. They said they if more than 5% of my items are over 900mm long then they couldn't help, even thought they have another category that is as long as all dimensions added together are under 230cm then its ok.

The main items im looking at sending are ether 1200 or 1500mm long by 200-150mm square. So came under the 230cm but DPD still couldn't help. They are light, heaviest being 2.5KG, however if multiples are ordered (due to type of item its likely) the weight and size would multiply. The largest size and weight would be a full carton of items being 158x28.5x20cm weighing 15kg. After this it would be a consignment of multiple parcels.

In terms of volume, with it being a new side to the business its a bit of a stab in the dark. However i currently sell some similar sized items that are popular during winter months, which i usually send about 10 a week of. I would estimate that im going to be selling around 10-15 items a day so if you play it on the safe side and say 70 items a week.

I would need a courier to collect daily once up and running, might be a bit slow in the start. I would imagine that its going to be 95% Uk destinations, however would like a courier that can send abroad if required.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Tom

I think the only courier who doesn't charge a surcharge for long items now is Tuffnells. Other couriers to consider would be DX (Formally nightfreight) or my favorite TNT. Perhaps consider going through an agent like parcelmonkey.

We use to use UPS on a daily basis for items weighing 20kg and 1.6m in length. It might be worth contacting them for a quote. I think we used to pay £9 to send them on a next day. However this price was due to the volume of items we sent out.

Know for a fact that APC will do up to 1600mm and 20kg for around £7 (maybe less with good volumes). Also with LED products you might want to use their fragile service, which means it will be hand sorted and not smashed to pieces by the conveyor belts that all these companies tend to use!
