Coronavirus small business grant

Hello,

I hope everyone is safe and well. One quick question regarding the grant. I have two businesses that have been trading from the same location for over 5 years. One is a VAT registered limited company and the other is not VAT registered and is a sole trader.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to apply for the coronavirus grant for both?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Do they both get separate business rates bills? (For example, it might be the same building but divided into two hereditaments, one for each business.) If so, both may be able to get it. If it's a single hereditament with one bill, you get one grant maximum.

Not sure that this is correct. In Annex A of the document which has been produced to give advice to the District Councils it says that the SBRR fund is 1 grant per hereditament but the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure grant says 1 grant per unique hereditament. It does not define what it means by unique. It is possible that in either case you just get one grant.

The real question is whether the business is eligible at all. SBRR grant is only available to ratepayers who occupy a property which gets the Small Business Rate Relief. This usually means that the business only occupies one property and thus only gets one grant.

The Retail grant only applies if you are the ratepayer AND you occupy the property AND its use is one of those listed or the council agrees that it is like one of those listed.
