The page is whats important, a good content site is what drives traffic - that's a complete website with hundreds of pages, and not some 20 page article stuffed site built - quality is key.
.
The users decide if a site is good, simply by re-visiting it over and over again - that's how you know you're good. If you can get a site full of popular content, you are bound to get traffic, but so many sites on so many different levels, that sit on that bottom rung of the ladder - not good. You may love your site, but if hundreds hate it, it'll never get off the ground.

Chasing free links is dead, over, and content writing is the new SEO.

Not correct. Marketing (which includes SEO) is what drives traffic. Content drives conversions.

Text links - good ones cost money and no way round it. The free crappy links found on blogs, minimalistic sites and forums is dead as a form of promotion, if you think about it, the only ones that chase free links are desperados, penny-pinching MD's and the poor begging webmaster.

We removed over 200 blog links recently, that belong to MD's/company sites which unquestionably hit those websites badly enough to cost them business.

Hardly being found and having products/infomation that is of interest is the key.

Content is highly over rated in driving traffic, and search engines would not know quality if it bit them.

Its a one fit all algo, not a professor of litrature.;)

Not if you know what you are doing. Still doesn't change the fact that your opening post was wrong.

I don't think I'm wrong somehow, seeing as one of my sites just got over 90k in views within 7 days.

a good content site is what drives traffic

My traffic will increase as will the page hits and that equals cash-flow my friend, so I'll be alright.

Btw, SEO mantra is mostly low-cost and like all cheap methods, the initial boost always dies badly over time, leaving the client out of pocket, while costs are at least doubled, when invoiced by publishers wanting their cash, due to SEO's inability to communicate where links are placed.

Not if you know what you are doing.

Oh no, please don't tell me your the only guy in the world that can do this, and as such I must use your services. I hear this all the time when I promote my employers site, I usually put the phone down on them within 60 seconds.....

I can't think of a time when SEO didn't require quality content. Even if you're chasing links, having a high quality, well-written site that people want to link to helps.

It seems to me that SEO pitching is cyclical. Since time immemorial, Google have said good rankings are down to authority, content and links. SEOs then fixate on one at a time, depending on what's easiest to sell.

Now we're in the time of content marketing (which, as any copywriter will tell you, is basically just marketing) so everyone's throwing the baby links out with the bathwater.

Content is highly over rated in driving traffic

It's pretty crucial when it comes to converting that traffic though...

Not if you choose the right SEO provider. If you work with the bottom feeders you will get junk. But use someone whe understands the nuances then you will get good results. The downside of this of course is that it's not cheap.

PS, I'm surprised it takes 60 seconds before you put the phone down. I've normally hung up within a few seconds.

Content is only good if people see it, it needs to be added to a site that ranks initially, good content alone wont make a site rank unless its linked to

Kind of chicken and egg really

Content is king, so the quality must be there too. You can have masses of content, which gets fills a site up and gets the visitors thirsty for more, it works very well or you can do a combination of mass/quality content, it doesn't matter - the point is that content sows the seeds for later growth and puts your mark down that its a serious business, but gives value to the visitor, the visitor then markets you - Word of Mouth..

Not enough to be a shop window anymore, people hate the hard sell style of old sales - a website has to draw people in with all kind of features eg: images, video, guides, yeah yeah, everyone does this sure - so now the only difference between an average site and a good one is oodles of content, and if this means diversity for the business, then so be it.

Take Dailymotion - this is owned by Orange, a mobile network right, but look at their power now, they moved into other areas eg: content site.... they added a huge video site to the marketing mix and grown. This gives em a strong web presence and further promotion/revenue options.

So many companies know they need added opportunities and quite right too. I think Yell made the mistake of being too comfortable and not branching out and they paid the price. The future is content for sure.

T

There are 7 billion people on the planet so one may have to wait a while for word of mouth to filter through.

You don't mention product / service e.t.c ,the most important part of a sites success.

So basically news sites should outrank all others due to the quality content,

Not true, quality helps a good site but put that quality on a poor site and its worthless as it wont be seen,

Put great content on an average site then put great links on a crap site, see which one wins I know which one my money will be on

I'm sure someone who's looking for a plumber to fix their flooding bathroom wants to read thousands of pages of content...:D

Nah, they want to see the words "I will fix your flooding bathroom."

On a three page website, that'll be alluded to on a general page about "plumbing services," but on a larger site they'll see a full page dedicated to their problems (that they've found through a long tail search for something like "help, my bathroom's flooded and the cat's drowned") and instantly know that yes, this person can solve their immediate problem.

It's all about convenience. Nobody wants to read through mainly irrelevant pages. But long tail searches let you give them exactly what they want to see. Yeah, they'll only see two pages of your huge site max (assuming you don't have a contact form on your landing page), but you can appeal to specific problems. And that's a better way, in my opinion, of marketing your site.

Not if they never find the site in the first place.

But the traffic will come if you believe hard enough and pray. You must pray more, see that's your mistake, no belief..

You may be very good at what you do but your belligerent attitude suggests otherwise. I expect you will reply with some 'I'm better than all of you' post but all that will do is reinforce people's opinion of you. You may even suggest you don't care what other people think - but that's not a good stance for a communications officer to take.

Its like spreading eggs in different baskets The wider the net is cast and the more strategy processes that are included, the better chance of improving traffic.

Content Writing is a best way through which we can speak our mind about what are the features of our product or website and what we want to say to our users.

Thanks & Regards
