Changing a company name - NM04 form?

Hello,

I've got a limited company with a name that I'd like to change. I had a look around the Companies House website, and found out that this can be done through submitting an NM04 form + £10.

However, it also says that this is a form for a change of company name by means provided in the articles, which I presume to mean the articles of association.

Can anyone clarify this, and tell me if such a provision is commonplace with a limited company's articles of association, or whether this is some kind of specially added clause in the articles, which only some limited companies have?

Any company can change its registered name by passing a special resolution which adopts the new name, with the agreement of at least 75% of shareholders. However, a company can also provide with other methods and procedures for approving a change of name in its Articles of Association.

I would guess that the 75% rule would apply in your case. You need form NM01
