Had an idea the other day (inspiration form another thread) to buy car air freshners with my logo and contact details on. Now i have done a bit research and found that i can get them from china for about 5 pence each. Now i wouldn't want to sell them but give them away as free gifts via garages, car showrooms etc etc.

Would you take one and use it in your car?
Would you estimate it to be worthwhile?
Any other comments/feedback?

I think it would work as 1 its free and 2 you will be advertising not only to the person who owns the car but every passenger they carry.

10,000 for about £500, worth a punt or not?:|

We talked about this ages ago on here - i think UKBF should do a christmas draw and the winner get free air freshners.....

didnt think i was involved in the thread.

Boxby - do you think its a good idea?

I have no details, thats why i posted the thread, all i have is the cost which is a bout 5p per unit form china.

I think the good thing about this is that it is a mini poster in 10,000 people's car's.
And everyone likes something for free. plus you could have a display box on counters which would again be a good advertising thing.

I think its a great idea but fragrance type has to be critical - who would determine what smells nice!!

and if it were me, I'd do a few to see that it worked before splashing on 10,000:eek:

oh and whats the shelf life on these things?

not sure to be honest, would guess at about a month.

I would probably go for a few different fragrances, a pine smell would be a good one for you matt or oak in fact theres loads of wood smells you could use.

All new and used cars come with an air freshner when you buy them so im sure a local dealer would take some off you free of charge.:)

Dave, shelf life I meant if you bought 10,000 and had them hanging about for ages (like my last self seal envelopes bulk buy that dont now seal!) and if you're talking wood smells, it has to be cedar. I reckon Dawg has the most apt useage for them:)

Definitely a good idea, but I would need to sample to fragrance before I bought any tbh - there are some strange smelling air fresheners out there.

They are something different, and if you had them properly designed, could be quite a decent marketing ploy.

this is something i have not thought about tbh.

i would probably have to guage how long it took to get rid of them against the shelf life, which i would estimate to be months rather than weeks as they are in sealed bags.

Initial thoughts are to try a few and see how it goes and as you say it is getting an advert seen. If you are targetting businesses then perhaps you could trial sending a few to PA's, facility manager, fleet managers etc which might also help get your business name remembered for commercial work. Even if the shelf life is quite short people will remember you were the company that sent the air freshener :)

Car air fresheners is a cool idea, another idea for you and considering your line of work, branded carbon monoxide detectors, you know the little sticky back card ones that change colour if they detect carbon monoxide. Stick 'em on the boiler.

The only problem with them is that they are not endorsed by the hse as unless your staring at them at the same time co is entering the room, then there useless.

Thanks though;)

I have looked in to buying audible co alarms from china, but then the safety standard issue comes in to play.

Have you considered sticker tro put on boilers as you service them ? I fit stickers to all the gates i fit, they are very nice looking with silver print on a transparent label. This allows me to stick them on any colour surface and they look discreet and so are less likely to get removed.
Fitted quite a few to entrance doors of flats and get calls from them.Better still because they dont look tacky they dont get removed much.

We had a guy fix a washing machine and he stuck this horrible looking sticker on the door of the machine,it got taken off as it looked tacky.

When you do a job for someone ask them to show you their yellowpages and then stick your sticker on the front and also in the section you want to be in.In the future if they need you again its hard not to notice you if they dive in the yp. Only thing is the yp has had its day.

I cant comment on the yp but my full page advert in the bt phone book has not yielded a good roi.
I still think tradesman will get work from the yp but not neccessarily a good roi, as its really expensive, online advertisng will give a far better roi everytime, so although yp is dead yell.com is getting better(for tradesman anyway).

sorry for jumping in.

Hi Lockie,

Can you expad on this please? i.e. Evidence, what will replace it, when, etc? :|

The evidence is in the roi, i get far more work from my websites than YP and it costs me less.

More and more people are turning to the web to find tradesman.

The airfresheners are good for valeting companies to leave in the car or garage services but Im not sure about businesses unrelated to the motor industry.

Just my opinion. :)

In those days I thought every body like air Purifier due to the bad air condition. If the air purifier is more beautiful it would be quite popular. Meanwhile it will also do ads for your company.

I don't get how you are going to get them into peoples cars?

Are you just going to stand in the street, or what?

You might of explained it but i missed it.

Out of interest, why would garages etc hand out marketing material for your company when they probably sell air freshners at present for a good profit?

Or had you planned to pay them to give them away?
