Can’t get cash

Went out at the weekend to a car show so thought it might be a good idea to get some cash. The town where we all met didn’t have a cash point nor did the two petrol stations on the way. Seems like link is pulling the machines if there isn’t a demand for cash anymore.

At the actual show every stall holder now has a card reader of some sort. Many don’t want cash, less hassle for them.

I went back to the town in which I went to secondary school the other weekend. I pointed out to the Mrs where Barclays used to be, where Lloyds used to be, where NatWest used to be, and where Midlands used to be (remember them). Not a single bank or cashoiint in the whole town now.

And yes, I know, I really know how to show a girl a good time.

I live in Birmingham and there are still cash points all over the place. There is an argument, however, to maintain a reasonable network of cashpoints.

I suppose that the supermarkets will still give you cash back but the last time I used it the limit was only £50

I tend to draw out £100 and when that gets low I will withdraw another £100 but the time between withdrawals gets longer and longer as it's only the hairdresser and window cleaner that I pay cash

We are fast becoming a cashless society! Yes more traders are using the card machines. Makes sense in many ways.

Pre-covid I had twenty quid in my wallet. I broke into it last week, now it's ten and I've lost the change!

That said, one of my annoyingly old fashioned clients still puts cheques in the post.

I very rarely have visitors at the office, but when people find me and want to buy something, I got a card machine simply because I really do not want cash.

I dont use a lot of cash but right at the beginning of the pandemic somebody on here warned about a rush on the banks . So I put cash in the safe to buy diesel in case the worse happened and we could still buy fuel and keep trading
It never came to this but always have a plan B and access to cash is important but not always

Same I carry notes, and I'll break into a note, the the change rattles around my pocket, and gets chucked on the draw at home. Wife suggested we counted it up and paid it back into the bank.

I think some people will soon realize that cash may be a bit of hassle but wait till the taxman catches you.

All card transactions go through the bank so no hiding your income anymore! Great for the tax man.

I have a old half full left handed cheque book from Lloyds, a while back i opened another account with them and they asked if I wanted a cheque book, I said yes but only if it is left handed - they denied such a thing had ever existed - few days later i walked back in with my still half full one for the other account and they got all the staff to come and marvel at it as no one had ever seen one, think it was given to me in about 2004 so should keep me going well into the 2030's

I find cash an inconvenience because I can't carry it around inside my mobile. All I carry is my mobile which I use for payments as well as communications. Just need to get a car that can be opened and started using my mobile and I'm sorted

For people who take cash I've found by installing the PayPal app they tend to have a PayPal account I can use to pay them, as a work around, but cash is an expensive system to maintain so it makes sense it will get phased out.

I had a customer pay me several hundred quid by cash yesterday, first one for a couple of years, for an invoiced order that's gone through the books.

The good thing about cash is when you go to put on a pair of smart trousers that haven't been worn for a while and find a forgotten £40 in the back pocket, 'overflow' money from a night down the pub.

Doesn't matter with new plastic notes unless your trousers go in a boil wash - in which case you have the worlds most expensive shrinky dinky

The only reason I might ever need cash is:

1. One of the local cafe's doesn't have a credit card machine. However, the butty truck has a sum up gadget, so I get my breakfast of potential death there now.

2. The plumber likes cash. However, this year I replaced my boiler (he didn't ask for cash for that, thankfully), and I am hoping not to need too many running repairs now!

I don't advocate getting rid of cash just yet. But personally, I can manage without it, apart from when I visit the UK.
