Call from BT about SEO - anyone had one?

Has anyone else had this? He stressed that the consultation would be free, but who knows what they're looking to charge afterwards.

Has anyone else had one of these calls/consultation?
They're ringing back tomorrow apparently so I'd like to know what to expect.

I act all dumb when it comes to SEO just to hear them out - this one compared keywords to a library.

I agree with you pretending to be dumb, we have had some hilarious stories with cold calling SEO companies.

£79 per month for nothing really. Everything they offer comes as standard with any of our packages. They are way out of their depth here, more than likely trying to compete with Yell.

Yeah BT have been offering this for a while now. Just a bunch of salesman on the line that haven't got the first clue about SEO.

Just to clarify, I never intended to say yes to their services, just wanted to know what sort of crud I was going to have to listen to.

They never called back anyway thank god. I looked at the packages on their website and about 70% of their services seem to be talking about what to do, rather than doing it.

Think of BT as the plague - AVOID it! The problem is they have such good sales people they are pretty convincing with their sales patter...just remember thats all they are good at sales - bad at seo ;-)

Call from BT about SEO - anyone had one?

What with all the various BT wholesalers cold calling and saying they are BT, whenever anyone calls and says they are from BT nowadays I simply don't believe them anymore.

I'm looking forward to the ad where that ghastly couple start doing SEO and fall out over their choice of secondary keywords for the homepage.

Perhaps someone at the cold calling company has just passed some SEO'ology exam.

I'm with BT for internet, 12 month contract. 6 months in the speed was capped at 48 kbps in a 800 kbps advertised area. Done all the line testing etc. and nothing is wrong. They say 48 kpbs is within there acceptable range and they won't change it because I am "one of the biggest down-loaders in the UK" when my bandwidth usage this year is just over 40 GB.

Avoid BT for everything, BT are a bloated, old dinosaur that are trying to cash in on "new media" and "web 2.0", but their practices are stuck in the 1980s. They also have the worst customer support I have experienced.

One of my new clients did actually use BT for a year and left them.. for me!..

Being serious, they did a good sales pitch but basically lost interest in the work they were supposed to deliver and also they did have a somewhat "Pile it high sell it cheap" emphasis on the way they went about their work

Had someone from BT on the phone to me once trying to explain how they could help with SEO - was a bizarre conversation and I couldn't understand why BT were trying to get into this space, without seeming to have skilled staff to make it a success.
