Business rates help req

Hi everyone last year I took on a lease from the landlord / owner who had split his property into 2 totally separate areas 1 area with office area with yard for us and he kept a yard and small warehouse I registered ours for business rates and was paying what they said needs to be payed but it turns out I had been paying his as well as he did not inform the voa of the split so I went trough the voa myself to try to split the property after sending numerous paperwork I have been told that my request was denied as I haven’t sent enough info I’m not sure what else I can and them as I sent everything they asked for and there message just goes over the same thing as before any help would be greatly appreciated

Well several things spring to mind here the first this should have been done by the landlord and you should have gone back to him in the first instance. He should have VOA re measure etc and allocate new accounts for the various areas.

Surprised you never picked this up on the first invoice the VOA sent you. Pick up the phone and speak directly to the valuation office they don't bite, but I would also pick up the phone to your landlord and get him to sort it ASAP and get a refund for over paying

Another question may arise of course did he actually have planning permission to split the unit ?

You might also want to look at your water rates bill. This will include an amount for surface water drainage which can be the biggest part of the bill.

And then find the landlord is also tapped into you electric meter ........ do you have separate utility services

I’m not sure what else I can and them as I sent everything they asked for

If they are asking for more, you haven't!

Push the landlord to chase.

Invoice them every month for a contribution to rates.
