Business Manager — Absotoonly | An Inklings Studio

Location:
Remote / Flexible Type: Voluntary (pre-launch phase) — paid role upon funding confirmation Reports to: Founder & Director

A bit about us

We're Absotoonly — a new UK animation studio with a slate of films, a feature in development, and a genuinely exciting journey ahead. The person behind the studio has made feature films and live theatre, so this isn't a first-timer with a dream — it's an experienced filmmaker building something new, and building it properly.

We're at the pre-launch stage right now, which means we're laying the groundwork before the finance is in place. When it lands — and we're actively working on that — this becomes a fully paid role. In the meantime, we're looking for someone who wants to get in early, help shape how the studio runs, and be part of something from the very beginning. The more you can offer at this stage, the better.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, read on.

What we're looking for

We need someone who can bring a bit of order to the creative chaos — someone who's comfortable working across departments, keeping people on track, and making sure the right things happen at the right time.

You don't need to have worked in animation specifically, but experience in film, theatre, TV production or a similarly fast-moving creative environment would be a real advantage. More than anything, we need someone who's organised, straight-talking, and genuinely gets things done.

In practical terms, you'll be helping with:

  • Logistics & scheduling — keeping the production timeline moving and making sure everyone knows where they need to be (or what they need to deliver, and when)
  • Department coordination — acting as the connective tissue between different teams, making sure nothing falls through the gaps
  • Deadline enforcement — the friendly but firm voice that keeps the whole operation honest
  • Business Development— Have a say in building the business, creating the next worldwide studio.

The honest bit

This role starts unpaid. We won't dress that up — it's a pre-revenue position during the studio build phase, and we think it's important to be straight about that from the outset.

What we can offer right now is a genuine stake in something that's being built thoughtfully and with real ambition. You'll be involved in decisions that matter, working directly with an experienced filmmaker, and positioned as a key person in the business from day one.

When funding is confirmed — which is the active focus right now — this converts to a salaried role. We're not looking for someone to fill a gap. We're looking for someone to grow with us.

You might be a good fit if…
  • You've worked in a production or operational role in film, theatre, TV or live events
  • You're the kind of person who makes lists for fun and actually enjoys a well-run schedule
  • You can hold a room accountable without making it awkward
  • You're comfortable with a degree of ambiguity — early-stage studios aren't always tidy, and that doesn't faze you
  • You believe in the project, not just the job title
Interested?

Drop us a message — tell us a bit about yourself, what you've worked on, and why Absotoonly feels like the right fit for you right now. No need for a formal cover letter — just talk to us like a person.

Every great story starts as an inkling. Maybe yours starts here.

Absotoonly is committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of the stories we want to tell. We welcome applications from anyone who thinks they'd be great at this, regardless of background.

Question 1, In the meantime, the successful applicant is working for free?
Question 2, if anwer to Q1 is "yes", how long are they reasonably expected to do so?

Showed this to a friend who is an operations manager. He would be expecting a salary north of £80k. And back paid to the day he started.

Sorry, but there seems to have been a bit of "cart v. horse" going on here! "Absotoonly" just does not exist anywhere - it is not a trademark, a registered company, a website and even Google has not heard of it! As I work in the media industry, I also have never heard of it and none of the usual databases has an entry under Absotoonly.

I wish you the best of luck - but I would register the name, the trademark and the company before looking for a production manager.

That's a lot about what you want - including free labour and very little about what's in it fir this dedicated person

IF you get funding, what percentage of the business will they own?

If you dont, how will you repay them for their effort?

So the percentage is negotiable, depending on the applicant and private conversation we have. If we don't get funding, is that what you mean? If this happens, then there will be an agreed compensation package in place. As this is just starting to get going, I'm open to being flexible and reasonable to secure the right person.

The ad states it's a start-up, I'm not hiding that. I've started film titles and theatres without any of the items you mention, it's all done in due course. Takes hardly any time to bring a web-site live, so that explains why you haven't heard of it!
