Hey everyone. Hope you're all good.
I've joined these forums mainly to get a little insight on the business world. I am a freelance Artist/Designer who also currently co-runs a cafe. Around 2 years ago I was living off my freelance work, but it was difficult to maintain a steady workflow that lasted the entire year. Normally I would be swamped from Sept- December, then have very few commissions Jan-March. This left me in a bit of a state and therefore I began running a cafe alongside a friend of mine. We did extremely well and I was finally able to move out of my house share, into a lovely little flat situated in Stafford.
The owner of our cafe was always out of town, we rarely saw him and to this day we are left in charge of everything. The only interaction we have is when we order stock, and when our wages are paid in, and even then it takes us a while to get hold of him. Still, it was working out great for a good year or so.
Recently however, he has dropped it on us that he is selling the business in as little as two weeks time, which has really put me in a bit of trouble, and I have had to have a talk with my landlord. Due to having no stable job, we agreed it would be best for me to leave. I have people I can stay with, however I cannot be freed from the contract unless a new tenant is found, which means regardless of my job situation I will need to pay £500 a month until I am replaced. Which is terrifying.

Because of all of the stress from losing my job, my flat, and having no luck with interviews so far, I have turned back to my art for a little extra income. However, this time I want to go BIG. I am spending the rest of this month perfecting my old work, I am going to invest in a good quality printer and advertisement, get a proper website set up alongside social media, and advertise myself thoroughly.
Hopefully by the end of July I will be free from all of this, and my new online freelance business will be up and running. Any advice from professionals would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
