Building dynamic online community for chat website

Dear all,

We have recently build a chat website, its easy to use and totally free, the domain name is <removed>.

However, we are failing to build persisting audience, i.e. getting more people on the service.

We manage to get about 40% of the traffic back, but they see that the website is still not used, and so they will not come back the third time.

Is there a way we can increase the traffic in a non-intrusive way?

Mind you, we build stuff for peoples' enjoyment, not for money.

Increasing the amount of people in a chatroom can be difficult. One way is to ensure your chatroom ranks highly in search results, so people are more likely to give it a go. Fake profiles are a short term solution that may do more harm than good. Growing organic traffic can be difficult. Some things you can look for are:

1. Better landing page with images that draws people in
2. More content to catch search engine results
3. More features like forums, profiles etc..
4. A reason or objective for the chatroom

Perhaps you should try some contests or any promotional gimmicks that might stimulate the interests of the visitors. Make it more engaging and add something that they would surely anticipate and come back. Even if the stuff you build is not for money, you also have to invest to drive people to come back.

Dear Forum,

We've managed to get a little over 200 users, with about 5 users registering per day, which is a good thing. However, that number is simply not enough to keep users 'attached' to the service.

Is there a way to increase the traffic to the website? Once people land on the website, they like it very much, but the question is how to get people to land on the website in the first place.

We've also built a widget, available at<removed> which websites can embed, and the traffic is shared, meaning that users from different websites using the widget can chat with each other.

However, nobody has adopted the widget yet, hence another fail. People do give us positive feedback, and they even log back in from time to time, which is why we want to build traffic badly.

Did you listen to any of the advise that's just been given to you?

The more hits you get that are converted to members, the more those members will tell their friends and you'll gain more members. After all, everyone signed up to facebook because everyone else was already on it.. right?
