Building a B2B database from scratch

Thought this might create a useful thread for others on here.

We need to actively market to businesses and this means building a database of them, from scratch. We have a few old leads but nothing much, so our current strategy is either to:

Buy the data - this is quick/easy but means low quality data.

Build it using LinkedIn Sales Navigator, but searching under job titles isn't simple as often it pulls out contacts with the wrong job titles and so this means checking each one individually.. I can then pull email addresses from these using a plug in - this is slow/time consuming but will give us high quality data.

Or we do both and I possibly outsource some of the more labour intensive bits to someone else (with very clear instructions!).

Thoughts/better ideas etc?

What is your desired quality/volume of data?

Ultimately you can't beat creating your own data, as its bound to meet your criteria

The volume data houses are poor quality, but can work on a flinging mud principle

There are data houses who will create specialist databases (sadly also some big ones who will claim to but won't really deliver) - finding the right one requires time and effort, and the data won't be cheap

Make them an offer they can't refuse

Think about it from their perspective

What are they actively looking for?

How can you save them time?

Could you give them a free trial or offer?

Think about the fisherman who hooks for fish

Fish look for useful things to bite

Facilities Managers and Hotel Managers

I used these guys - I was actually after the MD / FD of hotels, which is a surpisingly difficult. https://www.rpbi-openings.co.uk/

Managers / FMs should be much easier - They provided quality data (at a cost) whilst others just gave generic email addresses & switchboard numbers.

Hi,

I have a small business providing hosted phone systems and web/email hosting. Like others on here, I have been trying to get a GDPR compliant list of Businesses to target and hopefully make customers. I currently have customers such as solicitors and kids nurserys. I can accommodate any type of business, but currently focusing on micro and small businesses.

Any suggestions/ideas of where to get the best list or how to approach? I am from a technical background, so new to marketing etc.
