Broken item after delivery

I am just curious, we ordered my daughter a water bottle. One of those air up things.
Some lad knocked it out of her hand in school and the cap has broke - this is 3 days after delivery and 1 day of school use.

The bottles are not cheap, I think about £35. Is it unreasonable to think that it should be able to take a bit of knock? In over 4 years of school its the only bottle that has broke.
Shes 7 by the way, so its not like shes 6ft and its dropped from a great height.

Did you order it direct from them or third party? it is quite unreasonable for a quality product to break, explain to them in a email that you think their product is defective and would like a replacement sent out, im sure theyd want to avoid any bad press and will honour the replacment at least.

Always worth asking the retailer you bought it from but I'd say the person who damaged it should pay for a new one?

If i was the retailer, I'd be annoyed that the bottle was damaged by a third party and damaged in a way that it was not intended for. If it started leaking, that's different, it's designed to hold liquids but it's not designed to be smacked out of someones hand.

Im not sure I fancy raiding a 7 year olds piggy bank on the back of a story off another 7 year old even if that was from my daughter.

Going off what I was told, a kid knocked into my daughter. It hit a table or something and cracked. It couldnt have been a hard knock which is partly why I am a bit frustrated with spending so much on something that has broke so easily.

Bottles get knocked, you cant say its not its intended use as shes not gone round banging it all over the show thats not the type of kid she is. In 5 years of being at school its the only one that has broke.

We ordered it directly from them. I think I will get in touch with them.

For £35, I’d expect it to take a bit of a drop or a bounce - a hiker walking up a stony path might drop it and you’d expect it to survive. So I’d expect a 7 year old to be able to take it to school and come back with it in one piece.

Cheers. Its good to know others think the same. Im not one to moan or complain but £35 for a plastic bottle you would expect to to be a little more robust.

It looks like the company are going to send out a new lid. We will see how we get on. But if they do that, I think thats the right outcome.

No. If it was advertised as an adventurers, go everywhere bottle, then yes. All we know is that it cost £35, that doesn't make it any better than a £5 bottle, it just cost more.

I just cant get past the fact that I think it should be a little more than one knock and its broke. Your right, it doesnt matter it the bottle is £5 or £105 - I would expect it to be able to take a few knocks and a bit of wear and tear. Bottles by their nature get carried around, they get thrown in to the back of the car or dropped to the ground to use as a goalpost or knocked off the side. If it was a glass bottle I could understand.

Lets hope the piggy bank is made of the same stuff eh. A strong hard look and it will break open.

I would have been fine with the lid alone.

All is well that ends well and all that.

Just to clarify for those of you who own/run ecommerce. We genuinely were not trying it on. If she had thrown it about or had dropped it and it had bounced down the stairs, I would have been teaching my daughter its a lesson for her to look after her stuff better and she would not have got another.
