I completely agree with you about that and which is why I voted Remain (I never bought the economic arguments in favour of Remain, I always thought they were nonsense).Obviously you don't understand the concept of community and helping our neighbours. By improving prosperity across the continent we are pushing back the chances of future wars and conflicts.
But that "community" ship you talk about ...has sailed. I don't know if you noticed but the UK had a Referendum and we decided to leave. Our UKBF discussions now are in that context. And yes, economically speaking, we are in a position to do better deals than the ones we've obtained via the EU's negotiators. We are a smaller market than the block's so that's a negative in any independent negotiation, but that's more than compensated for by the fact that we don't have to protect various EU-based minority interest groups.
I don't know how the topic turned to benefits but it may have been in response to an Ignored Member (cobby) posting something. But why do you object to the figure going down? Are you in favour of a situation where it's a lot more lucrative to be on benefits than to take on employment? Benefit reductions have caused some cases of extreme hardship, suicide, all sorts. But the system was broken before and someone's trying to fix it. In the process of fixing there will be casualties. And some of those stories can be heart wrenching. But how do you make an omelette without breaking eggs? That figure has been going steadily down.
