While I don't condone his actions, I'm guessing the guy is protesting that only Oxford and Cambridge are allowed to participate in the boat race. Why not have regional heats and allow the two best crews to participate in the race? It would be rather entertaining to watch a working-class crew beat out an Oxbridge crew.![]()

While not meaning to stereotype, it would be rather entertaining to watch a new technology school's crew beat out an Oxbridge crew.![]()
So is fox hunting - but that doesn't make it right. Sadly, some traditions reflect a previous era in which a majority had a really tough time of things while a small privileged minority lived the life of Riley. To survive, IMO, these traditions need to break free from their roots. Opening up the boat race to other universities would be great way to do this.Steve, the boat race is about tradition and all that it entails
#Incidentally, the Grand National is another tradition that really ought to change. How many horses has been killed in that race? Two were killed just last year. What possible reason is there not to make Becher's Brook, for example, more safe for the horses? In that case, tradition kills on a regular basis.

We have a set of people who have worked their hearts out all year training and giving up things just to be part of today .... I give in!

Enlighten me what is it you actually sell?
The globe hasn't got corners, it's round.
The SIMPLE POINT I made though is that he has the right to his opinion, him making his opinions known should not upset people. I do not always agree with your opinions but you are entitled to them.
Not only that some people seem to have a problem with the fact that he lives in America, so f#*^>$g what![]()
Incidentelly how many cows, chickens, pigs, deers, hamsetc have been slaughtered this year?
Wow, Steve, you slaughtering ham in Hull ?![]()
It's not "anti-horse racing bile." It's suggesting that course organizers do some comparatively simple things to reduce the number of unnecessary deaths. No way am I against horse racing, but I am against the unnecessary death of horses - in the name of tradition.
Cornishman, don't you mind! Also me and the mods quite often don't see eye to eye but lay of the fact that Steve lives in America now. He is still an Englishman and as entitled to his opinion as much as any of us.

Earl
SirEarl is probably employed by oxfam.
Monitored more like by them and GCHQ. I bet it costs more to keep an eye on Earl Towers than watching the Russians and SMERSH...![]()
Despite obviously being an emmet, you got that one right! How would a Scot or a Welshman react when called an Englishman? The very thought is absurd. The Celts are a completely different race, and our languages aren't even Germanic. Despite his good intentions, 'This and That' was lucky to escape without a strike. This post was a bigger certainty than any horse race winner I have ever backed. Doesen't matter where in the world you track them down Cornish people hate being referred to as English...I used to live in Newlyn and Penzance.
