Ok so next Saturday is the National - the day the nations housewives bet on something - the day the bookies usually tend to like.

So any tips for it? Anyone going to it?

(as she now sits back and waits for the anti horse racing lot to start their usual bile!)

I've not seen the runners yet, but generally I go for something 20 - 40/1 place bet. Little point doing the favourite.

Oh and always one really long shot 150/1 plus each way because it's not unheard off. Have quite a few Jockeys and Trainers in the shop but never like to ask for tips.

Isn't the National known as the Bookies' Favorite? Totally unpredictable, no matter what form a horse is in? Throw amateur jockeys* into the mix and it's another fun day out.

*Now dwarf chucking is frowned on will throwing jockeys be the next thing for drunken Rugby players to do for relaxation? Time for a longcopy single page website selling a 'how to' ebook I think.

Top tip - keep your money in your pocket.Predicting winners is never easy.Much worse for the GN.Loose horses, inexperienced riders, all far too unpredictable for me.

Oh I always win something on the National - have done since '83 - sometimes its just a couple of quid for getting the 4th place, sometimes its for the winner - I did a spate of getting four winners on the trot recently!

It used to be unpredicatable but these days due to 'public' outcry etc and making the fences smaller etc - the course is easier and you find less mistakes and more of the better horses doing what they is supposed to - win!

After having a 5 year break in a 20+ year attendance for usually the whole met not just the Saturday - making a return this year - heading to watch with two sons in attendance!

Me thinks after the last hours events in London ... might just set someone off again thinking about distrupting this event as well!

I remember the national that never was as I stood in that rain watching and screaming with all the others there for those who did keep on running to pull up!

I also remember when the National was cancelled -I unfortunately was not there, but my ex was with my then 5yr old son - and I remember sitting home worried sick wondering what was happening ....
