Best Free Video Editor

Need to trim the start and end off some MP4 videos and other basic stuff.

What is the best free desktop software for this? Ideally can be used with Youtube

Blender would be a good option, although I've never used it for video editing, only ever used it for animation. Blender does look like it would feel like Premier Pro though.

Another option could be lightworks?

Video editing can be both tricky and tedious at the same time. If you're looking for free then you cant go wrong with Windows Movie Maker but for something more beefed up and relatively easy to use try Cyberlink's PowerDirector.

It costs around £50 and will do themes, subtitles, slideshows and comes standard with free templates and other resources too.

for video make i would like to suggest Adobe After Effects because it's provide a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing and used in the post-production process of filmmaking and television production.

The OP was asking about a FREE video editor for very basic cuts. After Effects is many things, convoluted, difficult to learn, missing many vital functions other SW packages have, such as morphed slo-mo, but free it definitely is not!

It's not completely free but you can get a Camtasia studio trial for 30 days which is pretty nifty!

Adobe have quit all support for Creative Suite 2, instead, they offer it to registered customers as a free download. The whole lot, Audition, Photoshop, sound FX, InDesign, the lot! And that includes Premier and After Effects. All you have to do is register and start downloading.

OK, it's 10 years old and is missing new features, but if you want sophisticated tools, it is the only way I know of to get such things for free.

I would not recommend the audio and video tools - they are just a PITA compared to modern SW like Reaper and Sony Vegas, but InDesign and the older Photoshop are definitely worth it. And if you need sound FX for something, that library is massive!

No, its all under 'Other Downloads'.

But there is now something far better for video called 'Hit Film' and it too is free (though the add-ons and plug-ins cost a little). It's from a small English company and is truly great!

If you have a reasonably powerful PC, try DaVinci-Resolve from Blackmagic-Design. It too is completely free and is used for finishing (look, texture, colouring, etc.) in the professional film world.

well,if you want a profession video editor, maybe you can try free-video-editor, i used to use it, pretty useful. but, if you just need a video editor to edit video for fun, i think android avi is better, i have been using it for a long time, this one is easy to operate and has some powerful functions. ok, enjoy your edited video

windows movie maker does actually have lots of tools and it is underrated maybe cos its free and built in.

but rotate video, trim, special effects and adding new music or audio are just some useful features
