Best free email client

For the moment, I need a really powerful, yet free, email client. Has anyone got any ideas?

I will eventually pay for one, and get one that lets you easily control from iPhones etc via apps, however I'm on a tight budget at the moment, therefore need to find a free one.

I've already downloaded this. Like most email clients I suppose, it takes time to get used too. But I just found it a bit complicated?

If you want a powerful email client, I'm afraid these tend to be more complicated than basic email clients.

Maybe (as stugster has mentioned) Gmail is good for your requirements? (Google Apps for your Domain)

Are you misunderstanding what an email client is?

I think you mean an email service, and one that can be accessed both from a PC and a mobile device. As suggested Gmail is free, provided you have no objection to storing your business data with Google.

I find the setting up an account with Mozilla Thunderbird the hard part. It says my details are wrong, despite them being exactly the same as Windows Mail settings.

Never tried. Google Apps lets me sync my Google Contacts, Calendar, Email with any client, anywhere, any time.

I use this add-on to sync between Thunderbird > Google > Android

Essentially your Google calendar is 'home' the and all others update and sync/to and from that.

It works as you would expect with a change made anywhere appearing on all devices/machines etc.

Make sure its not automatically using IMAP as your server type. I know the last version of Thunderbird I setup had an issue with the 'auto' setup wizard.

It's a known issue so google it. Essentially you may need to manually set your server type to pop3/smtp.

Surely if the guy's wanting to be able to pick up the email from other clients, he'd be better off with IMAP?

I'd stay as far away from POP3 as possible if I were you.

Plus the latest version Thunderbird works great with the auto wizard and IMAP. I know because I set it up on Saturday on one of my computers.

If you don't want to put all your eggs in Google's basket, there is a promising project here.

Integration with Thunderbird and mobile devices is pretty well complete. The Outlook connector is at the alpha stage.

Another vote for thunderbird here. I simply have not found anything I wanted to do that it could not handle. Just backed up my mailbox as well a few days ago and at nearly 20GB it is still in full working order.

As above, the back up and import facility just knocks spots over others, it really is so simple its unreal.

I would completely disagree with that. But, as you've made only 4 posts, I'm assuming you're just a dirty spammer anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong

i would have to go with google mail, push notifications work really well on the iphone aswell.

I would suggest Mozilla Thunderbird and using a Gmail account to route all your emails. Google Mail is undoubtedly the best email service (Especially for removing Spam!)
