some of my clients use iZettle for accepting payments in the shop

iZetttle have a promo price on at the moment for the reader

Sign up below and get the new iZettle Reader 2 for £19 + VAT* (regular price £59+VAT) and start accepting card, contactless and mobile payments, anywhere your business takes you.

What is iZettle Go?
iZettle Go is a point-of-sale (POS) app for your phone or tablet, enabling your small business to take payments for just a simple transaction fee.

To get started, you sign up with iZettle online to get your business and bank account verified, then download the app on a mobile device (it does not work on a PC or Mac). Order iZettle Reader to take chip and PIN and contactless payments in conjunction with the app, or send invoices and payment links for a higher fee.

It works as a complete, cloud-based POS system for face-to-face businesses, including backend analytics and reports.

The best one is the one that works best for you!

You really do need to think about everything you want the system to do, connect to, manage, etc. Only then can anyone give you some real advice.

@pcourtney you are right. And they will also have transaction fees 3x + that of a normal merchant account!

Many of them!

I got a relatively general quote for:
Debit + credit (Consumer & Commercial) 0.5% +2p
Based on £50k t/o pa. Yes there were additional costs, but, they wouldn't put a massive amount on based on the average transaction value.

I know of some companies charging 0.3% for new businesses, depending on criteria!

the OP does not tell us much, I am assuming by the question being asked, that EPOS is something that might help, and it is an early stage venture, maybe the shop has only just opened ?

but going with your figure of £50k t/o - just to do some math

iZettle charging 1.75% would be £875 per annum with free EPOS ( no rental or purchase required for the EPOS. except the £19 one off cost for the iZettle reader)

Merchant Account 0.5% would be £250 per annum ( no Amex ) no EPOS and additional costs which have not been disclosed by "consultant"

so I guess for the OP, is the iZettle EPOS app worth £500 per annum, and that iZettle is a no contract - a kinda get your feet wet first type of deal, is the EPOS that comes with it worth £10 a week, if it is then iZettle is worthy of consideration

or you go down the Merchant account route which has lower credit card processing fees, but you still need to an find EPOS device/supplier ( that can hold 200 items ) and at what cost ?

if the OP is starting from scratch and the t/o is zero, then it seems to me that iZettle is a no brainer for a few months until the business gets off the ground :)

Having worked in the EPoS industry for many, many years I will say Consultant gives the best answer- it depends on what you want/need.

Having said that izettle could very well be a good starting point. BUT it will not cost just £19. You will need a tablet to run it on, a secure stand for that device, a receipt printer and quite possibly a cash drawer (although this may not be needed). So probably more like £500-600 + the merchant fees.

If the expectation is that the sales are going to make izettle expensive, then investing a bit more in the startup costs (say another £1000) will enable you to go with a lower rate integrated system running on touchscreen pos terminal.

What have I not disclosed? The charges will depend on the supplier, your business and how well you negotiate! You might get a PCI charge or authorisation charge. There maybe gateway or something totally made up. If you are a member of a business group, you may get preferential terms!

BTW if the epos system is given away, how can it be worth anything?

Izettle could be the best solution for the OP, but how can you honestly advise that when you really do not know what the OP needs? My guess is that they don't even know what they really need!
