Barber shop prices

My barber also does beard trimming for a couple of quid, do you do this?

What about a multi-buy / annual cut service, if a customer comes in every 6 weeks, they will have an average of 7/8 cuts a year which at £9 comes to £63 / £72 per year, offer a discount if they pay in advance e.g. £50

For minimal outlay you could do a text service when their cut is due e.g. text them every 6 weeks as a reminder, will cost you around 3p a text from http://www.textlocal.com/

What if someone has a hair cut fetish and is getting their jollies from watching everything at the barber?

Let me guess, you used to play rugby...but had to give it up because every time there was a scrum you thought they were all talking about you?

What if that same fetishist physically passed you on the street...then made a mental note of what you looked like for when he got home, etc etc.

A quick wax and polish sir!

Or "Hello Sir, perhaps I could just slap your follicley challenged head for a few moments?"

do you open on a Sunday? I hate having my hair cut as I am very busy during the week and there just is not enough hours in the weekend to squeeze a Saturday cut in as it is normally very busy and I have a family to entertain so it always ends up as a mad dash. Is there a reason barbers don't open sunday? could be missing out on picking up a lot of new customers.

An annual 'deal' isn't going to help make more money. Again, all he'll end up doing is working more for less money.

To ear more, he either needs to charge more, get new customers, or get the exiting ones to spend more.

Discounts as a short term promo maybe, but a not the best route imho.

Yes, how did you know? Were you the one who always started the rumors?

Can't do anything about that, kind of like card counters in Vegas. If they do it in their head, nothing can be done, if it's assisted in anyway - not allowed.

No mention made of if you do timed haircuts during the week which is great for busy men, no waitiing, just pick a few quite days and put a sign up appointments available theses days if customers come in off the street just tell them when the next free time is they will understand

I bet if you lowered your price by £1 you would get it back in a tip, mind you at £9 they probably tell you to keep the change anyway

OAP day at very cheap rate

Fill the seats, three per hour,

Straight off the bat....

You've a huge window? (put some posters in it...consider getting on of those scrolling LEDS signs (so people passing in their cars can see it)

get a Facebook page....put your offers on there.

Take out an advert in a free newspaper.

Hand out slips of paper with everyone's change.

Get some flyers printed ...have your family push them through letterboxes.

Word of mouth

Put a flyer under windscreen wipers

Most of the above is for women. I have three barber's in my town. I select my barber based on how busy he is.

I want to be in and out so the less people in there the better. But then again I'm a real man - you know the sort.

I'm the same...hence would like my local barber to have a webcam in his premises that I can check from the comfort of my home - I don't want to put on my coat walk the 10 minutes...only to find 4 people waiting on the bench! I'm an opportunist...I spot an opportunity, I sieze it.

Blimey seems some are not bothered by the quality of the cut.

My barber is not the cheapest but he is the best.

For my last haircut, I went in sat down & said to him... "I'd like my left side a No.6 in length, the right side a No.4, I'd like the top really clumpy, the back half finished...and can you also leave my neck unshaved please"

He said "Sir there's no way I can do that"

I said "Why not? it's how you cut my hair last time!"

(I'll get my coat)

What are your premises like?

I have two barbers local to work, both are grotty inside but cheap £7-£8

Then the one near our old shop has been fully refitted, and really tidy inside, with 3 chairs and usually 2-3 staff, they charge £10. Despite a cheaper barber open over the road they're still busy.

A pleasant, welcoming, tidy environment, could you offer a complimentary refreshment (can of coke, tea or coffee etc) whilst customers wait? I know a few ladies hair dressers do that.

Some customers still choose service over price. Take a look at Toni & Guy, and Sachs. Although aimed more to females, its the experience.

I would test out his pricing scheme; however I would utilize a promo in which when a customer likes you on FB then you'll give them a cut for that promotional price. This way you can gain more customers via Social Media

£2.50 is a joke. I once went to a barbers, he wasn't the cheapest, maybe a fiver but the haircut was shocking. I was literally in and out in 3 minutes. Obviously I haven't been back since.
I like Pish_Pash's idea of a webcam showing the waiting area. I might check that when I needed my hair cutting.

The way I plan it at the moment is to get up stupid early on my day off and get there before breakfast in the hope I will beat the queue. Usually I do ok and get there with just 1 or 2 in front of me.
I silently chuckle to myself when I see guys getting there at 10am and there are 5 or 6 in front of them or they walk in and walk straight out.

You need a TV and blokes don't like conversation. We would rather watch an episode of Friends while having our hair cut that make polite chat with a stranger.

sorry if this has been mentioned already - waiting times!! I HATE waiting. If I had the choice of paying £10 and getting my arse in the chair within 5 mins and £7 and waiting 20 mins or more, I'd go the dearer price every time.....

dont pander to cheapskates:)

I have a barber as a customer who advertises with me. My OH gets his hair cut there. A couple of years ago the barber started offering timed slots on Saturdays. OH always gets his done every 6 weeks now as he books the next one before leaving. The barber does 2 timed slots per hour I think, and the rest fit in around them. The barber says it works well for him.

That would hack me off....when i'm waiting at the barber my brains whirrs with permutations - eyes fixed on the clock, calculating how long before I get in the chair (well, there's little else to do)....in your barber's it'd be a case of ...."huh, this blokes just walked in & he's going before me - does not compute".

That's like waiting in a long post office queue with only to counter clerks...someone comes in wanting travel money, one of the clerks instantly downs tools & goes & goes & serves him....intensely irritating.
