Bank accounts

Can anybody recommend any good business bank accounts?

I'm looking for an account where i can do banking online - which im sure most banks do.

My bank movements will be mainly cheques in and occasional cheques and cash out - not really any credit needed or anything like that and don't really need a big overdraft.

Also, would banks allow an account whereby cheques can get paid in as to muy business name and also my personal name as this does happen at present and i imagine longer-established customers continuing making cheques payable to me personally rather than the business.

My pesonal opinion is that banks are pretty much the same, they are all in it for the money, I've never met a bank that sees me as a person, it always comes down to "the computer says NO / YES"

Dependant on what you need the bank for will obviously effect your decision, I've been with Natwest and hated them, I'm currently with HSBC and they're ok but if you're simply looking for a business bank account that doesn't charge you for everything under the sun I've been told that the CO-OPERATIVE are the people to talk to, if you are a member of the FSB I'm pretty sure you get additional benefits too.

I hope that might be of some help.

Hi there,
I had this dilema when I first started out and was about to open a business account with Abby when the Inland Revenue suggested just opening a bog standard account.

RBS were already my personal banker so I just opened another standard account with them. Their online banking is very good so I'd recommend it and because it is a standard account I don't have to pay any rates.

I imagine if your outgoings and incomings are quite low that this would be the way for you to go.

Gayle, its a great idea if you are a sole trader (and possibly even a partnership) but after looking at Simons website and product line I made the assumption that he is likely to be a ltd company (registered with companies house, although I haven't checked) and if this is the case I'm pretty sure he'll have to set up a proper business account.

If there are any accountants here I'd love to know the correct answer to the above?
