Does anyone know what happens if I apply for a refund under the DD guarantee scheme? Does that generate a complaint against Worldpay or will my bank simply settle up and then it all gets quietly forgotten?
Nothing will happen because you agreed to WPs terms and conditions and they would not deviate from the agreement

But that's the whole point Jeremy - I DON'T have any agreement with Worldpay. In fact I eventually managed to contact them and they won't deal with me - precisely because I'm not one of their customers. My suspicion is that someone else opened an account with them (or perhaps with one of their merchants) and gave my bank details.

My inclination is to report this to some financial authority but I assume Worldpay isn't UK based so I don't know who'd be effective against them (if anyone...)

Thanks Jeremy and as an update... the current situation is that in total, I contacted Worldpay 9 times before they replied:- twice by email, 6 times via their online forms and 1 x letter. The only one Worldpay responded to was the letter - and I suspect that's only 'cos I sent it recorded! They assigned me to someone called Chandler but all he did was tell me that their customer complaints team only deal with merchant complaints - not the general public!! At one point I asked if he'd give me the merchant's details (so I can take it up with them directly) but he won't even tell me that!!

Either Worldpay (or their merchant) has stolen money from me and they literally don't seem to care! So far, they're not even offering to investigate, let alone offer any refund :-(
