Attachments on ipad/gmail

Looking for a free solution - i need to create a document, save it as pdf and send it as an attachment, whilst using ipad and gmail.

I can only find that gmail allows you to attach images and video on ipad!

Any suggestions are gratefully received

Maybe i need to ask a different question here - what do you guys use when emailling on ipad if you want to attach a document that isnt an image?

I use the Gmail App and Google Drive.

There is also a cool app Called Scanner Pro. This lets you take photos of documents and then save them as a scanned PDF.

If I understand you correctly then you need pdf printer. Installing one of this tool will install virtual PDF printer on your computer where you can print any file that will produce pdf file. Just search the internet and you'll find one.

Sorry you have misunderstood. I want to use iPad only, to create a doc, convert to pdf then email as an attachment, preferably using gmail.

I think its the app that's restricting you, so I'd use a different email client. (Don't use an ipad so you'll have to search for one)

Then use that to login to your Gmail account, and hopefully send as normal.

Not sure i fully understand.... I have tried to do the above using gmail in safari and still cant.

I am now prepared to change my email address if i can find a solution that allows me to write a doc, convert to pdf and send, just need pointers to apps and email providers

Not used it, but quickoffice pro (£13.99) looks like it should do what you want. It can save the files as PDF and you can use google drive to email a link.

Thanks for the suggestion, I prefer to email the pdf as an attachment rather than a link.

I mean the Gmail App on the iPad won't allow you to send certain attachments. Its the same on Android, if you use the Gmail app and search for a PDF to attach it won't let you. (By Design or lack of it by Google)

So, if I was you, I'd search the App Store for a different Email Client, then use this to login to Gmail using POP3/IMAP. I believe the iPad also comes with an App called "Mail"???

So use the "Mail" app instead, and use these settings to connect to Gmail.

To clarify

I have used both the default "Mail" app and the GMail app, neither will let me attach a pdf. Nor will bypassing apps and using GMail in browser

I've tested both just now, and, to clarify, Gmail works fine, both the website, and the standard "Gmail App" on Android. (But I did have to click to see "hidden files" for some reason).

I'd say you're settings are most likely at fault, as the instructions I gave earlier were found on the Apple Discussions forums from others with the same issue as you. (Aka Gmail on iPad is crap). The usual response was to use "Mail".

Maybe it works for you as you are using Android?

The Mail app on iPad will only let me attach an image or video.

Yep possibly... I was just trying to show this isn't a Gmail issue in itself, but something up maybe with the Gmail App for Ipad, and by the sounds of it even the Mail app.

I have done a little digging around on the Apple forums again, and it seems if you open the document with "Pages", from here you'll be able to send it with Email, but for some reason - as you say, you can't do this directly inside the Mail app.
