Using Twitter's advanced search you can find businesses/people wherever you want

"near:York within:5 miles" finds tweets sent from within 5 miles of York

very handy for finding locals

Hi everyone

Just followed all users here - we are @emediastudiosuk

Hey I am @getrichquickexp

The other very long thread is for somewhere up north so appreciate this being more London based (I am Raynes Park in SW London).

I will endeavor to add you all probably tomorrow but I tend to follow anyone relevant or worthy that follows me.

Yes, but I only follow someone worth following. I don't see the point otherwise. It just ends up like having to many 'friends' on FB - pointless and annoying.

Evening all,

New to the forum! You can find me on Twitter here 'KentBusinesses'

I only publish local business news there (supplied directly by local businesses themselves), but hopefully you will find it useful/interesting.

Cheers

But why would you want to add just anybody and everybody?

Probably because all of the businesses mentioned are geographically local - we'd love to hear from businesses local to us whether that's someone walking in the door & connecting with us on Twitter:

Hi All!

FocusedUmbrella on Twitter,

Follow and we will follow back! Such a good way to connect to new people.

We are a paye umbrella and limited company accountancy service in King's Hill.

Hopefully speak soon.

To be honest, I think Twitter can be a good thing (not got too into it yet). But the amount of people/companies who just re-tweet just about everything anyone else posts is as bad as people on facebook who like & lol at just about everything everyone else does/posts.

It's just 'social spam' (can I copyright that phrase?)

Exactly the whole 'we follow back' thing from people who seem to think its all about having the highest numbers rather than being about interation and having something to say. Do seem to be more and more companys using twitter, because they think they should be, only to broadcast pointless questions or repeatedly post about their own services. If thats all you are doing you're wasting your time there they call it social media for a reason.

Asking people to follow you on Twitter makes you sound a bit whiny. Following is a personal thing. People follow others that seem to provide them value. Value can be measured in any number of subjective ways: insights, humor, comments. Anything....we would follow only if that is worth of following back or they have a nice approach at least...
