Are Kodak printers cheaper to run?

I have used HP printers for the last 15 years upgrading every 2 – 3 years.

It’s that time again to upgrade and although I’ve been very happy with HP as a brand the running cost of the ink cartridges is horrendous. (I’ve tried refilling and non oem cartridges).

Has anyone used the Kodak range of printers, I’m looking at the Kodak HERO 6.1 and just wonder if the running cost actually is cheaper as claimed or does the cartridge contain less ink and hence just as expensive as the HP.

I would say the cost per sheet is actually higher with Kodak. Their printers are not really designed for business use (in my opinion)

Best value you will ever get from printers is to buy a brother of HP Laser machine, and use a well established brand of compatible toners, from somewhere like lyreco, office depot, staples

If you have account with these people you will get one for probably 1/2 their actual list price if you convince them you get it cheaper elsewhere, and if you have any problems these big players guarantee to replace your machine if their cartridge fails or damages it.

By far the best choice in my opinion

There are good compatible ink cartridges available for the Kodak Hero 6.1 (and the other Hero printers):

But yes it really does matter how much printing your doing and what sort of printing as to what would be the best and most cost effective printer solution.
If its lots of black text type invoices then go for a laser printer

I moved from HP to Cannon and have found that Cannon is very cheap to run. I suggest you shop around as ink cartridge usage changes som much in just a short space of time.

another vote for Canon.

switched from Dell a couple of months ago and the savings have been very impressive. where we once spent £30 quid a cartridge we now spend about a tenner a cartridge over at ebuyer.

Dell printer wouldn't work with ANY 'compatible' cartridges. it had to be an official dell product and that took ages to get here and cost a fortune.

PC pro did a survey a while back. These things change and cost over the lifetime of a printer can change from model to model.
The price of decent ink cartridges also depends a lot on brand and people like kodak work their calculations on buying the overpriced genuine cartridges which is not exactly what you are probably going to do.
If you are only doing 20-50 pages per week the differences in cost will be minimal.

 

Epson wins for me and if using a lazer get toner refills for £10-20.
