Hi everyone,
Just looking for a bit of advice please.
I have a small IT Support and Web Design company that I run jointly with my mother. She works in the business on a part-time basis to help with web design and some routine IT jobs. Her pay this year will be around £20k to £25k, however it’s likely to be lower next year (probably around £10-£13k).
My question is: She’s keen to develop her skills, so I’m looking into a web design or IT apprenticeship for her. Based on her low salary next year, am I allowed to claim the apprenticeship levy for her to pay for her training course? I'm not really looking to reclaim any salary costs - it's mainly just the training costs.
Some websites say yes, but some say she has to do a minimum number of hours. This year, it’s around 20 hours a week, but next year it’s likely to be nearer 10-15 hours a week. She has a full employment contract and timesheets, so if the apprenticeship people need to see that, that’s no problem.
Many thanks again,
Tom
