Amazon Flex while on SSP.

I have a friend who has been signed off from work (stressful job) with anxiety and depression. He is now receiving only SSP.
His doctor has suggested that he could do a less stressful job during his recovery such as food deliveries from Amazon Flex (loss of income is exacerbating the condition).

Amazon Flex works on a self-employed 'gig' basis - would there be any issue doing this whilst also receiving SSP?

You are not allowed to work while on SSP. If they are fit enough to work for Amazon then they don't need to be on SSP.

That is absolutely not true. You may be unfit to work in your normal employment while being fit to work in another. You receive SSP from the employer for whom you cannot work and normal pay or self employed income from the other.

The caselaw on this involved someone who was absent from work due to stress caused by bullying at work. They found an additional job doing similar work but witout the bullying. The tribunal found they were perfectly entitled to do that and receive SSP.

It would be different if, for example, the employee could not do pnysical work because of a back problem and continued to work fr another employer doing ec=xactly the same role.
