Alternative to Dropbox and Drive

Hello,
I want to share a small number of Excel and Word docs with about 5 others, so each can alter them. Dropbox free version seems ideal.

However, I already use a 'paid for' Dropbox. It seems that I cannot also have a separate copy of the free version of Dropbox on the same computer.

So I have looked at Google Drive, but is appears to want all spreadsheets and documents to be converted to another type in order to manipulate the. I don't want to do that, I want to use Excel and Word as normal.

Are there any other free cloud based sharing systems? Only need 50mB ish

There are a couple solutions for it but if you want control over sharing and control permissions you would be better off paying for it. Also not a drop box user I would assume you should be able to create a container within your paid version allowing for coliberation. Also check out asana. They offer a full free version for up to 10 team members

Another vote for Microsoft One Drive Live. Up to 5GB is free, being MS it handles MS office files really well and delivers the alternative use of cloud versions of Word, Excel, etc.

Google Drive may ask you to convert MS Office files to the Google Docs equivalent but it's not necessary. You can just store MS Office files in Google Drive and share with others.

Surprised no one has mentioned box.com the individual plans free with a 10GB limit and has all the features you need. As a close second Id recomendonedrive. The storage limits blow competitors out of the water.

Personally, I would recommend something like owncloud. All you need is a basic VPS server and you are able to do so much with it. Things like file sharing, email hosting, website hosting and much more.

Pretty sure g drive won’t convert ms docs if you just upload them as that.

Personally, I would recommend something like owncloud.

Owncloud has effectively been superseded by Nextcloud.

But the principle is the same. You own your own data, not give it away to someone else.

Office 365 apps are designed to be used with OneDrive/Sharepoint. If you use other providers you may find that you can't edit documents simultaneously.
