Ai Chat Tools. What happens when everyone is using them?

It's going to get more an more of a junk fest. There is already too much junk being churned out by content creators. AI tools will just increase the volume.

And everyone is jumping on the bandwagon judging by the number of emails I get offering AI services.

Articles and blogs are already mostly ignored by Google so I doubt a meltdown will occur. Google will just move on to look at the things that do affect ranking.

I see it going the other way.

What's the point of writing articles if there is a system that means people get answers to their questions without having to visit a website?

Edit to add - The articles and rubbish will get churned out, but so what, who goes past page 2 anyway?

Surely all content writers are using the tools to aid their writing of content.

Will Google's algorithms have some sort of meltdown or find patterns in the text?

Asking for a friend... :)

Google seems to be ok with it, as long as it helps the end user, ie it helps create good content. There are AI detection tools that can tell if a page is AI or manually created,

That's what Bing is doing. And Windows 11. You ask a question and the answer appears on the screen. No need to visit any websites.

I've had an invite to test Bard. I will report back..

Yeah I wrote a post about it a few weeks ago
The way Bing and Windows are combining is brilliant, just ask away, no need to visit a website

Bard is nowhere near as good in my opinion, haven't used it a lot though

It is clever I agree. But I asked it a question about diabetes and the answer was far less satisfactory that on the NHS website.

Ok for general information but I’d not use it as a trusted source for everything. Today for example it got a Wordpress function completely wrong.

While there are some tools out there that claim to be able to tell if something was generated by AI, I think most experts think that it may be actually impossible to tell, even with a very advanced AI doing the testing.

But have you seen what they can output? The quality is actually very good indeed, probably better than most blogspam articles out there.

Google has already stated that it doesn't look down on AI written content. As long as the answer is comprehensive, well cited, and useful for its user it doesn't make a difference to them. They can already tell what's AI written and what isn't.

Think articles are still very useful. Look at Bings offering currently, it cites the sources it got the info from, so this sort of content is going anywhere for the time being.

I'm not sure about this, I know some tools exist but as Large Language Models evolve I think this is getting harder and harder as they emulate human writing more and more closely.

Unfortunately a lot of what is being published is low level junk. I had one of these AI content creators send me some samples and they were just garbage.

Haha, nice question. I think Google has already implemented some rules for AI content. For example, your blog articles should be under 70 percent when checking for AI generated conent.

I think the idea that Google can somehow tell which words and what percentage are generated by AI is just pure fantasy.

I have tested this a few times, with tools like 'writer' and it passed the human one as 100% human written the AI version was flagged at 95% AI written.

I've tested it numerous times and every time it gets picked up as AI,

It all needs legislation and some rules in place, which is impossible in reality, as the web extends way beyond the borders and control of any one country.

We have been testing both systems and Bard is off the pace, nowhere near as accurate. However, as fisixc says, for anything detailed or requiring proper citations and detail, both are frequently wrong, using content that's incorrect in the first place as a source or literally appearing to make things up!

I feel like people are trusting it way too much, I've seen ChatGPT be confidently incorrect multiple times during testing. I'm using it to generate simple stuff to save me time but nothing more currently.

Nonsense, I just tested writer.com on a blog article I wrote and I asked ChatGPT for 3 variations:

Mine: 100% human.
Variant 1: 100% human.
Variant 2: 88% human.
Variant 3: 100% human.

So it cannot reliably detect AI, just as I said, and this is using the free version of ChatGPT. GPT-4 is significantly better.

Yes everyone knows that, but with each version it is more and more accurate. These improvements are happening every few weeks, so it really won't be long before this and other issues are resolved.

I must admit I hate chat bots, as soon as I realise I'm not speaking with a real person I close the chat. AI content is probably no worse than the junk churned out by people overseas for a couple of dollars. All these attempts to shortcut and make savings have an impact on overall customer experience, what it really comes down to is how customer focused you are and the balance between service and cost saving. Personally I prefer to give the customer easy access to real people because that is what people want.

I'm saying writer.com cannot reliably detect AI generated content. And indeed that there is no way to reliably detect it.

I don't know what you did to test, or where you got the AI generated content, but I don't believe it was accurate.

That was obvious from what you were saying.

Yet you were talking like you'd used it and it was rubbish.

Please, if you know nothing about something, just don't pretend you do.

Paul.
I never said I know a lot about them, I only said I hate them as a user and therefore would never use them for my business.

Correction - I probably have used ChatGPT before I closed it, can't be 100% sure though.

Well let's be clear, ChatGPT is not like any other chatbot you've ever used. Previous ones were indeed rubbish.

ChatGPT is entirely different. You should give it a try, bearing in mind the paid version is significantly better than even the free version:

I'll pass on that - my ethos is to give the customer the best service possible.

I'm sure it works for some businesses very well, good luck with it

In the nicest possible way, this comment shows that you really don't understand what ChatGPT is and how significant it is.

ChatGPT is not simply a website live chat that's there to talk to your customers for you and replace customer service.

It's no exaggeration to say that it's the machines waking up, and starting to be able to think in a way where they can do any job any human can do ... and better.

Some might laugh at the above, but time will tell and we will see.

That is quite funny - a chat bot can be more intelligent and understand my business better than my degree qualified staff with decades of experience in custom designed print and the range of products on offer. Are you serious!

Don't laugh, but yes.

Given more time and further improvements, it will be.

I know you find that hard to believe but what we're seeing right now is the start of a super-intelligence that will be better than any human at anything.

I hope you refer back to this comment in a few years once it's happened.

Does that mean you are redundant? I give my specifications to an AI tool and it returns a fully functional website?

You'll be telling me they can load the printers and swap rolls over next!

I'm sure they can be very valuable to some businesses.

Not quite yet ... but pretty soon we will be I'm afraid @fisicx .

You know with the paid version of ChatGPT (ChatGPT Plus) you can upload a sketch of a website layout and it can produce all the code?

I mean you can upload any image of anything and ask it to do anything with it and it will.

Right now the AI model can only accept a certain number of words and only output a certain number of words and it's not yet enough to build an entire dynamic website ... but this number is increasing constantly.

I'm afraid our days our numbered. I'd say we've got a few years left max.

Physical jobs like that will actually be the last to go.

But I'm guessing you haven't see the Tesla Bots?

Enjoy the last years left before all our jobs are automated away. Hopefully before then the government will realise they need to pay everyone a Universal Basic Income.

It sounds crazy but it does appear to be what's happening.

Paul is correct.

If you employ designers and they've experimented with DALL-E 2 to some extent, they would likely admit its impressive capabilities and express concerns about their job security in the near future. Additionally, as organic displays continue to improve and become more affordable, traditional physical printing may not have a promising future. The focus is shifting towards interactive content and design, which can be easily implemented on organic displays. It's worth noting that major players in the industry are already incorporating ChatGPT and DALL-E technology into their websites.
