HI all,

I'm in the process of starting up an agency and I’m looking to connect with some freelance videographers and social media content creators to collaborate with.
If you’ve worked with creatives before (or are one yourself!), how do you usually find reliable people to work with? Any tips on where to look or how to build a solid freelance team would be super appreciated.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

While actors are comfy (ish) with agents, creatives often aren't - Camera folk tend to hang out on facebook groups and organisations like the GTC, sound folk have some really good facebook groups where work is traded. I can't imagine people wanting to use an agent, as rates are pretty poor anyway and 10-15% to an agent is eating into the finances too much. When I need people, it's a small circle really, so everyone already knows everyone so within a few messages, you usually have the names you need. Surely social media creators would use social media to offer and seek work?

I think he's setting up a design/marketing agency and is looking for ways to connect/collaborate with freelancers so he can use their skills within his business.

That's the norm for creative agencies

So you are starting an agency and are looking for clients. Are you looking for clients from just the UK or worldwide?

I thought they have clients but need freelancers to do the work...

The OP mentioned that the proposed enterprise was an agency. So what you are saying is that it is not an agency. So what is it, then? Is it a firm who wants to sub everything out to freelancers.

That’s how I now understand it. Hopefully @GaryVincent will clarify.

It'a a design agency where he has/gets clients and probably does some of the work in house but wants to connect with freelancers to bring skills onboard as and when needed.

Agencies don't usually have all the skilled staff under employment as they would only need a photographer for a shoot, or video editor for a specific client as and when. Creative agencies bring in freelancers when needed.

The clients just pay the agency to manage their design and marketing and the agency sorts out what and who they need depending on the job.

As you are starting up some sort of content /marketing agency I presume you have experience in the sector.

Start out by using your contacts to source people you want to work with and agreeing rates/terms .

Hi Gary! I run a digital marketing agency and totally get where you’re coming from. We’ve had the best luck finding freelancers through recommendations, LinkedIn searches, and niche Facebook groups. Once you find them, setting clear project scopes and starting small (like on a test project) helps you spot who’s reliable before going big. Happy to share more if useful!
