Hello, I've recently made a blog and want to advertise it. I have a tiny budget and would like to know what's the best way/if anyone can help me. I don't know exactly what SEO is but I'm guessing that's something to do with it?
Thanks.

SEO doesn't necessarily have anything to do with promoting a blog. I have PMed you a link for info on SEO.

If you want to promote your blog I would recommend:

Produce good content, preferably covering new ground - not the same old waffle
Comment on blogs all over the Internet (quality counts), particularly on similar blogs
Sign up to social networks (my advice would be StubmleUpon) integrate yourself into certain communites, use social media to promote others content and in turn you will make friends who will promote you

If your content truly has value, find similar content, see where their links come from and try and get links from the same sites.

I would not waste your time commenting on "A-list blogger's" blogs. Find other newer blogs and popular blogs be average joes. Look for blogs where the owner is engaged in discussion with commentors.

Hmm. Good article.
So, to do on-site SEO I need to put my key words on my page as much as possible? That means do as much content as possible with certain words in it such a my site name and things surrounded by it?

iTopz, what are you hoping to achieve with the blog? By this I mean are you hoping to steer customers to a site relating to the content, are you hoping to sell advertising around the blog? etc etc I feel this has a real bearing on how you would market / advertise your blog

also what is the topic? :)

First make sure your Blog really has something of value. Even if it's free to read you still have to sell it as their wont be an expense of money for the prospect, but their will be the expense of time and effort.

If your blog doesn't have the factors it needs to get subscribers and regular visitors then it's basically the same as working really hard to flog a product which no one will buy.

I am new to this too but it is quite interesting. I think you should join other blogs and put your keywords in there using anchor text
Create a twitter and if you have good content people would come.

Yes, but if you want people to read it also make it human readable and non-spammy. The general idea of a blog isn't to rank in search engines though. Blogs tend to build traffic from other sources.

Hmm, seem to get SEO more now. Wizard, if you want - we could add each others blogs to our blog pages to swap cutomers? That is if you use it regularly?

Hi

We are actually looking to do something similar. Would you or anyone else here be interested in a link exchange scheme?

We are currently ranking #1 on google for our keywords (Epsom computer repairs, laptop repairs in epsom etc.)

Please either leave us a message here or contact us via our website. We are going to add a new section soon of "Trusted Affiliates" which we are planning as a platform to promote small business and help small business with their SEO.

Remember to not put much importance on link exchange schemes. The value of a backlink is lowered considerably when it's a two-way link as Google identifies it as a way to manipulate the search results.

Thank you for pointing this out Scott. However a medium valued two way backlink is better than zero value no back link at all. No?
