if any one can help with some advice on the following issue i would be very grateful.

A client recently employed my services to move an item that had been delivered to their house from the ground floor to the first floor.

The item was delivered in a ply board wooden box and left inside this throughout the process of moving from ground floor to first floor.

The client was not present at the time of delivery nor whilst the item was being moved. The builder who was renovating the property was the only other person around.

The item was moved, and left in a room in a house on an active building site still inside its protective casing. Two weeks later the client has contacted me saying they have just opened the box and realised that we have damaged the item beyond repair and are liable to reimburse them the cost of the item.

Thanks for reading

It could even have been damaged during delivery to the premises. It was his responsibility to check it was received in good condition before then having it moved by you. Surely he must know it could have been damaged before you even touched it.
