Accounts and Stock control software reviews?

i I am new to this site. I run a small business that supplies pubs clubs and restaurants with catering supplies. So industrial fridges to straws and everything in between. We are presently using sage line 50 and are totally frustrated with it and have been now for two years. We were on sage drive so that 3 users could use it at the same time but it was so slow we had that removed and are now networked.

I am desperate to get away from sage but am struggling to know of a cost effective alternative. We have a lot of stock lines and so quick books is not sufficient for us. I am looking at Pegasus but the Capital Gold seems a bit basic and the Opera costly at 8k to buy, £148 PM for support and 7 days at £412.50 for installation.

Does any one on this site use another other software and can recommend? We dont need it for payroll as that is on Bright Pay and we are happy with that. We would use for invoicing, accounts, nominal ledger, stock control, SOP and P.O's. Many thanks in advance.

I switched from Sage to Xero and couldn't be happier. However, it only has basic native stock control so you will need a plugin. Have a search on Xero's App Marketplace and see if there are any suitable options.

Just to add, there is a company that will transfer all your existing Sage data into Xero so you have historical records on the new system too.

Hi Dean, I looked at Xero but decided against it as I was worried about having so many different providers in one concern - If that makes sense. I have had such a bad experience with sage that I am trying to be very careful and dont want to create a situation were by half the provider of the service blames the other half. how long have you been using Xero?

Maybe 5 or 6 years. The apps I use with it integrate pretty seamlessly (ReceiptBank, Expensify, Float) so I don't even see them as separate software.

Stock management is a different beast. I would find the best software to handle that first, and then find an accounting package it can integrate with second.

Hi Heather.

I work in an IT company that has been going since 1986 and we have sold, supported and looked at a lot of business software. We still sell Sage but we are a bit disgusted with them and the way they do business.

We have sold Exact, Pegasus, Sage Line 50, Multisoft, Tetra and Sage Line 100. We are not fans of cloud computing as its a throwback to the computer bureau, its unreliable and expensive, I can expand on that if you want. We look at all software / hardware and look at the five year cost and XERO usually comes out at £1200. Both my Vet and Doctor are in medicine but I don't ask them which health insurance I should buy. Its the same with accountants, they don't actually handle the software problems and installation.(We don't advise on tax either!).

We are now down to selling mainly Open Source accounting, we still sell Sage but it costs the end users and we don't make much money out of it. We recommend either Turbo Cash or Front accounting. These packages cost you less and your support dealer makes more money. For example Turbo Cash has more users than Sage. Ill be happy to advise but I don't think that we can supply you anything unless you live in Suffolk / Essex so it will be impartial. cmx co uk

The best fully integrated system I have ever come across and personally used for 'wholesaling' is by Lakeview. http://www.lakeview.co.uk/.

I have not used Tradegecko https://www.tradegecko.com/ but it looks an interesting option.

I can't tell you about pricing of either, but Tradegecko does show their pricing plans on their website.

Using separate Accounting and Inventory Management (and Warehouse Management) software packages and integrating them is fraught with difficulty, as you suggest. You will find that paying more for a fully integrated package will save you loads of time and will give you peace of mind!

Hi Heather! I’m currently using Sage 50, and I didn’t notice anything wrong with it. Anyway, you might want to consider availing Sage additions that can help improve that system you’re using. I got mine from this online provider: warehouse-management.co.uk. The Sage additions I’ve acquired helped me in monitoring my warehouse activities and even with the elimination of needless paperwork. So if you are interested in sticking to Sage software, I suggest that you consider availing some additions to it.

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean when you say that QuickBooks isn't suitable due to your number of stock lines?

Regardless, do you have more than 14500 customers, suppliers and products combined?

If you read my post I did say depending on the version and the OP didn't mention if they were looking at desktop or cloud.

Personally, no, as I run a service business but, professionally, I have seen hundreds of Sage 50 data sets that have FAR more than that number of products let alone customers, supplier and products combined. As it happens, I've got a set of data in today that has 38462 product records...
