The question is in the title really: 301 redirects - can there be too many?

Having changed ecommerce provider, every page now has a new URL, some 3000
Should I redirect every single page, or cherry pick the higher value ones to redirect?

From an SEO point of view there can't be too many, it a normal process. From a server and performance point of view ten yeah you can have too many, various technical reasons that I won't bore anyone with. 3000 is fine though!

If its not going to cost you too much time/money then get all 3000 done. Otherwise cherry picking the best is an option.

Depending on what your URLs are moving to and from you might be able to use Regex to do something more advanced and essentially convert an old url to a new one based on the Regex rules. It can be very tricky though.

I had to deal with a UK charity late last year and they had over 15K redirects when moving from a old bespoke website to something newer. It was a nightmare and took me a full day to route through them all but they continue to rank great now with no problems whats so ever.
