Hi

I am wanting to point my domain name to my new server, but cannot understand how to do it??

Has anyone has experience with 123-reg before and know what info I need to put in those boxes in the control panel??

Thanks for any help

You need to get the DNS settings from your new host. Ask them and they we tell you what they are.

Hi all you need to do is get the name servers for your new host and update them in your control panel at 123 reg

Ok, I think I was looking in the wrong section on 123-reg.

My new server is saying..
To point the DNS-A records of your domain to the (said IP address) and to leave your Nameserver as the default....So....

At 123-reg? I keep the Nameserver default as it already has been inserted....then click on 'Change Nameserver' button? and then add the above IP address??

Is that right?

Hope it makes sense.

Click Modify Domian
Click Manage DNS
Change the "www" A record to your IP address
Add any aliases (CNAME's) you want
Click "Update DNS"
Wait DNS to propagate

So, If I do what you have just said.....my domain will no longer be at 123-reg...but the page will be loaded with my new server??

If you want to 'point it' as you say, then just change the nameservers as above.

If you want to move it completely away from 123 then you need to change the IPS Tag to your new providers details.

Tread careful young fella.

You need to be able to back up your credentials if challenged and you are using a registered trademark/trading name above and if you do not have explicit permission to use the name, you are at risk of big trouble dude...

Well, I did what Cornish Host said, which is below and now I'm hoping i did right and not messed anything up because when I type in the domain name in the address bar, I get the 'Page Cannot Be Found'.

Have I done right??? :|

Click Modify Domian
Click Manage DNS
Change the "www" A record to your IP address
Add any aliases (CNAME's) you want
Click "Update DNS"
Wait DNS to propagate

If I change my mind and wanted to change it to another server, could I also do that too by going into 123-Reg and doing the same as I did before?? Or would I have to point it back to 123-Reg IP address first before I can point it to another server??
