I missed this sugestion, terrifying vision of the future. And to be honest this is more likely to happen under a Kamala presidency, its a very left wing view.

You do have accounts with all of these sites; they track you all the time and know quite a lot about your browsing habits. You may not have access to the accounts, but they exist.
Presumably, this would have applied to well-known terrorists like Nelson Mandela when he was in jail. It would have been a bit weird that he couldn't post on Facebook when he became President of South Africa.
Looking at these posts, I don't think you understand the purpose of social media, so you should probably avoid getting too involved in trying to regulate it.

Here's a classic (but true) tale..... :
Robert Jenrick (he’s standing for the Tory leadership) was on the radio the other day and stated that “big tech” had a responsibility ‘to prevent the spread to misinformation’.
So who gets to decide what “misinformation” is ?
I suspect Jenrick thinks he should be one of those to do that.
But this is the same Robert Jenrick who, on the 29th of March 2020, stated (in an official government Covid briefing no less) “This virus is indiscriminate”.
No misinformation there at all, obviously.
And here's the punch line.
Robert Jenrick is, apparently, one of the favourites to be the next Tory leader !<<

Another aspect of how problematic the social media and digital environment has become was highlighted recently when the BBC reported that increasing numbers of Moderators are experiencing Mental Health issues.
It's all very well proposing that Social Media can be moderated but let's consider the impact on those unfortunate enough to be moderators.
It seems to me that this is further evidence that Social Media is not the way to go and it should all be taken down.
In the future we will look back on the social media environment of the early 21st century in the same way that presently we look back on the Slave Trade. It will be seen as something that provided great financial benefit to a few whilst seriously harming the many.

@numbersrule - remember usenet, newsgroups or alt.binaries? Even more divisive and repugnant content than the current SM selection. But the majority, just like SM, was informative, fun and enjoyable.

Therin lies the problem. As it would include every single blog in the world. My mum has a knitting blog where people comment. Are we going to ban this. BBC news allows comments. Is this going to be shutdown. If not who is going to decide what is permitted and what isn’t?

Does the BBC news allow Joe Public to reply to those comments? The presenter may ask guests to comment on emails or texts sent in from listeners or viewers, but that is completely different from an open discussion on forums like this one or on the comments facility on YouTube.
