Take Down All Social Media

Start again with a Gobal Identity Card System that makes every user of the Internet immediately identifiable to the security services in real time.

I missed this sugestion, terrifying vision of the future. And to be honest this is more likely to happen under a Kamala presidency, its a very left wing view.

I don't have accounts with any of Facebook, X, Instagram.
You do have accounts with all of these sites; they track you all the time and know quite a lot about your browsing habits. You may not have access to the accounts, but they exist.

With the above system, the cretins who posted subversive content during the England Riots would never be capable of reaching Level A and would therefore be unlikely to ever hold accounts capable of posting instantaneously.
Presumably, this would have applied to well-known terrorists like Nelson Mandela when he was in jail. It would have been a bit weird that he couldn't post on Facebook when he became President of South Africa.

Looking at these posts, I don't think you understand the purpose of social media, so you should probably avoid getting too involved in trying to regulate it.

Yes, further evidence of the role of social media in creating a fake world in the digital environment.
I thought we'd been through this up thread ? :

>>What's the difference between that and censorship ?
Who gets to decide what "misinformation" is ?
Here's a classic (but true) tale..... :

Robert Jenrick (he’s standing for the Tory leadership) was on the radio the other day and stated that “big tech” had a responsibility ‘to prevent the spread to misinformation’.
So who gets to decide what “misinformation” is ?
I suspect Jenrick thinks he should be one of those to do that.
But this is the same Robert Jenrick who, on the 29th of March 2020, stated (in an official government Covid briefing no less) “This virus is indiscriminate”.
No misinformation there at all, obviously.

And here's the punch line.
Robert Jenrick is, apparently, one of the favourites to be the next Tory leader !<<

I think your confusing misinformation with honest errors from a time when clearly we were all on a learning curve with regard to Covid. Governments are not omnipresent all knowing entities. They are merely a collection of individual human beings,

Another aspect of how problematic the social media and digital environment has become was highlighted recently when the BBC reported that increasing numbers of Moderators are experiencing Mental Health issues.

It's all very well proposing that Social Media can be moderated but let's consider the impact on those unfortunate enough to be moderators.

It seems to me that this is further evidence that Social Media is not the way to go and it should all be taken down.

In the future we will look back on the social media environment of the early 21st century in the same way that presently we look back on the Slave Trade. It will be seen as something that provided great financial benefit to a few whilst seriously harming the many.

@numbersrule - remember usenet, newsgroups or alt.binaries? Even more divisive and repugnant content than the current SM selection. But the majority, just like SM, was informative, fun and enjoyable.

Take down SM and like a hydra, umpteen more channels will arise.

You're using social media wrongly and don't like it. That's fair.

Maybe change the way you use social media.

Fortunately he didn't make it.
I was more of a Kemi fan anyway.
Of interest is it never occurred to me she was either a woman or black,
That's real non racism / non sexism, as opposed to just avoiding jokes about women (which I tell as much as I tell jokes about anything else I could possibly get a laugh out of, it's called humour....).

There are increasing numbers of us.
Public opinion is shifting.
No it’s not.

Remember the Cambridge Analytica scandal? Despite all the dire warnings everything carried on as before.

It's great to see that the shift in public opinion is gaining momentum.
Says you posting on a forum which is itself an early form of social media.
