Is it worth outsourcing payroll for small clients?

I'm thinking about outsourcing payroll, but unsure if it's worth it for smaller clients.

Has anyone here done this?
  • Which providers do you use?
  • How do you charge clients for it?
  • Do you retain control or let the provider deal directly?
  • Any issues with accuracy, deadlines or client complaints?

Would love to hear what’s worked (or not worked) for others before I commit.

Declaring an interest, My company can either white label, where you retain control or deal direct. My charge would be the same whether I were chargng the client or you - it would be for you to decide what markup to add. I have never had any complaints and could provide references.

If your opening post seeks genuine advice from a provider, I strongly recommend against using AI to articulate the question. AI can misinterpret the tone, and the message can be lost in translation.

@Newchodge has responded as someone who does exactly what you're asking though.

I do outsource my payroll, despite only having a modest number of people on it these days (4).

It means I never have to speak to HMRC, and am relaxed that compliance issues are in hand.

The resident go to person here is, as mentioned already, @Newchodge

On your website under services I see you offer payroll outsourcing. If you're looking for advice about the service you're offering why not come straight out and ask for it? Dressing it up as you being the potential client seems a little disingenuous.
