Collaborative town centre shop initiatives

Does anyone have any good examples of town centres which are using methods to drive customers to the town centre as a whole, instead of individual shops all working independently to do this? e.g. shops run promotions to get customers to their specific outlet with an offer or deal, but what encourages shoppers to visit the area as a whole? ?
 
Mark is spot on, pick a town and have a look at their BID website should give you a good idea of how the various parties are all working together

Don't have a look at their BID websites though. Look through the websites and the business facebook pages of the businesses who have to pay the BID levy. My local BID's website and facebook page is full off 'announcements' of things that really have nothing to do with them. A waste of money where I am.

Out of interest what is your current BIDs website? Can you share a link please?

The whole operation has been built by a five year old. This is a small town on an island, not many businesses, so we've got levy payments around 10% of RV and fixed costs of over 40% to administer a £120,000 fund annually. You see on their website boasting about their contribution to cleaning up some shop fronts ? That was the equivalent of 15 businesses levy payments being used to paint 5 shops. The only other thing they've actually doe is engage a contractor to clean pavements with a pressure washer and put stickers on everything claiming they brought it to the town.

The rest of the stuff they post on the website or their facebook page really has little or nothing to do with them.

If one comes to your town, get active in making sure it never gets voted in.

I was actually thinking with this thread if there was anything central for towns for customers? (Not so much on the businesses investment side of things)

For example how collectively do town centres online help a customer find answers to "where can I buy blue shorts today" e.g. helping identify shops which a. Are open b. Sell that type of product c. Have stock?

Currently shoppers have to manually search every shop website or trawl a town centre for something specific currently.
